Do you actually have a diagnosis mean is it really trochanteric bursitis? Did you have a scan, or just the MRI? I am asking because for TB it’s usually enough to have a scan and an xray. At least it was for me.  Here’s my story:  over a year and a half ago I had horrible acute pain (stab-like pain) on my right leg + hip (not on the back which would perhaps be sciatica) but on the side and front. It seemed something was out of place.  Couldn’t move, etc. I called the health help line (at 4 am)and they told me to take pain killers and go to hospital.  I decided to wait until morning. I went to hospital late morning, limping; and came out with the diagnosis of acute lower back pain. Of course it wasn’t “lower back pain”… anyway the pain improved temporarily on voltaren+ relmus injections.  However during the course of the following months and into a year and half it persisted with several degrees of intensity. Because I also have fibromyalgia the doctors (GP + Physiotherapy doctor) always dismissed my complaints. Until I pressed further, and further  and finally I was sent to scans and xrays. So it was trochanteric bursitis, that is inflammation.  Then I  had Physiotherapy mainly electrotherapy, galvanic stimulation, ultrasound and massage after which the pain would improve only to revert back shortly after. A nightmare!

I am summarising the story to get to the point that: I only improved decisively about a month and a half ago when I had a 5 minutes appointment with an osteopath. He made something “crack” and then said that something was out of place (that’s what I felt) which was causing inflammation (trochanteric bursitis). It worked like a charm.  I am not 100% free from discomfort but I am 85-90% and, at this point, that’s good enough for me!  To wrap up: if you had a acute onset maybe  something  is “out of place”. If something is out of place then a good osteopath may save you a lot of pain, time and money.  I hope you find your charmer and go back to the spin-life you so enjoy soon. All the best. T.

Thanks Hazel I have had this injection and it didn't work, it improved it for about 2 /52 but thats all, you can only have 2 apparently. I'm not going to be fobbed off but I feel I am fighting a loosing battle, going round in circles: I have been told that many different things I could write a book! and I get so frustated and cross with myself and everyone around me, no one seems to care there seems to be a get on with it attitude, which to be honest at the moment thats what I'm doing, I could cry with pain and frustration, but I won't let myself get to that point I'm a stubborn mule.

When I read your post I feel like it could be me writing it!  I too am 57 years old and have the exact same symptoms as you do!  I toss and turn all nigh and my legs are in extreme pain!  I walk with a gimp and when sitting too long it's hard for me to get up.  When I went to my GP a few months ago she gave me the option of either going to PT or seeing an Orthopedic dr.  I opted to try the PT and she insisted the pain is due to my lower back.  The PT isn't working and I'm still having severe leg pain on my left side by my hip and down my leg and in my behind.  My question to you is did the MRI help give you some answers for treatment?  And what type of a dr do your suggest to see for treatment?

Hi MRI results Im still waiting on 7 weeks this week, and I'm well fed up with that scenerio believe me! I have done everything, Physio, rest, Ice, heat. My last chance saloon is  the Osteopath, who I have an appointment with next week, Hoping the MRI will be back by then so I can have some input. I don't want miracles just a pain free existance, as I have mentioned I was a  so fit happy person who's turned into a fat miserable frustrated person who just exists! well thats how it feels. My feelings go out to everyone of us who has this.

l,m having simular problems, lve had lower back pressure pain for many years on and off, used to be very severe intense and would sieze up if l stood still for l0min, l,d other symptoms that later were diagnosed as intersticial cystitus, meds given and lower back pain improved to not as severe or frequent. l did occassionally get nagging lower hip pains with it, now the hip pains have got worse and frequent, tracking under my butt also into top of outer thigh, l can have it through the  night and usually wake up with it, 5am-6am have to get up and try move about, hobble more like, this goes on for a couple of hours, l used pain gel, and heat patch on lower back, eases a bit with time, but by then feel very tired and washed out with it.  lve had pelvic xray, showed a bit of wear, so gp said, twice emphasising a `bit` leading to her loss of interest or advice on any further tests scan treatment, charming, even an examination is beyond it seems.  It might be something that cant be helped other than pain killers, but having an iffy tum l,m wary of taking them regular. l did have adhesions following csection and infection, possibly nerve damage with it. At present l,d like a diagnosis and a bit of effort by gp to find one, then advice on what help can be offered. l,ll see a different gp soon, and poss apt for pt or osteo.  If any of you above who posted with simular symptoms have got def diagnoses and treatment that helps could you let us know, thanks, and best wishes
