Ringing in ears

Hi was diagnosed with PMR 2 was ago....after starting Prednisone the symptoms are 80% better.  Now 2 weeks later I have new symptoms like extreme ringing in my ears (this is constant) along with a recurring sore throat and headaches.  Is this a side effect of prednisone or the disease itself?

After two weeks I doubt it's from steroids. And in my experience the steroids really did help all the symptoms.

Are you taking aspirin or other meds or supplements? Sometimes aspirin causes ringing in my ears when taken for headaches.

Advil could be the cause . I had to start a journal to eliminate the cause annoying the ring. Sometimes medications have side effects.

Cyn, sorry to say, but the ringing in the ears could the Prednisone. Unfortunately Pred has a number unpleasant side effects. Good luck on your journey, try to be positive and smile. 🙂

Hi Cyn 1965. I have ‘endured’ Tinnitus for the past five years, as a result of drugs given to me overseas when I was in an induced coma, drugs which incidentally had been banned in the UK for over 10 years due to various side-affects. As far as I am aware Tinnitus is not a side-affect of Steroids, but what I can confirm is that it does make life even more difficult! Wishing you good luck and better health!

Difficult to say - but my immediate suspicion would be that maybe your PMR was a symptom of GCA and it is progressing: ear symptoms and sore throat can be due to GCA  and headaches are fairly standardly part of GCA. Do check with your doctor asap.
