I started Zoloft last Sept 2017 on 150mg. By November I developed tinnitus. I am now really trying to get off this med. I have also got a constant dizzy/foggy/ pressure in head. I am down to 25mg and have terrible withdrawal. I just look forward to going to bed at night!

      Oh Lynn !

I want to get off this too !   I am so scared . I am still going through withdrawals from effoxor. I was on it from 22 years 😩.  I totally understand how you feel !  Hang in there !!

What are your withdrawals from Effexor? Is your head fuzzy? I am interested to know because my doctor keeps telling me that withdrawals from SSRIs and SNRIs are mild.

    Hi Debbie

I’m sorry to say that this is another side effect for some people. Sert has made my existing tinnitus worse and now gone to the other ear.

I have been on 50mg for many years, I started to withdraw slightly and was ok. After being frightened by a GP I

upped to 50mg and immediately had more noises. GP upped to 100mg and after only one tablet I had multiple noises in both ears. Only took one at that dosage.

I had a complete emotional collapse from which I’m still recovering. I dare not stop the sert but the T is very difficult.

You may be lucky and find that yours just fades away. Most GPs seem to be in denial about this side effect but don’t just stop your meds. Take some advice from your provider.

    Warm wishes

I agree that doctors do not accept meds can cause tinnitus. My T came on this Bly two months after starting Sertraline. Two weeks ago I paid for a complete vestibular test. I was told that I have a bit of hearing loss in my left ear which is the tinnitus side.

Otherwise all the tests seemed fine. The worst symptom I have is constant foggy head. I am sure this is all due to the Sertraline. I also read that dizziness is a withdrawal symptom. I just can’t wait to get off this med.

I am now starting HRT because I think a lot of my anxiety was due to the menopause.

    Hi Debbie.

I too have ringing in my ears, I originally thought it was because of the Zoloft, but it turns out, I have Eustachian tube dysfunction caused by TMJ clenching. Please note that a side effect of Zoloft is jaw clenching at night. When you clench, you can sometimes cause the joint to become inflamed and that causes fluid buildup and pushes on your inner tubes, hence causing the ringing. Might be something to think about. If you treat the clenching (ie a bite splint) it may diminish. I am going back up to 100mg soon and I too am scared of it causing the ringing to increase. But logically, since the ringing is still there, after I dropped to 75, I think it’s inflammation. Do you have any soreness/aches in your ears or face at all?

      Hi Diana

YES !!!  I do have extreme pain in my right ear .  Not inside the ear , but behind it . I don’t think I clench my teeth in my sleep . I don’t have any jaw pain . But my right ear has always given me problems. To many concerts 🙄.  I think some of this might be due to sinus problems too . Can’t win for losing ...  I am 58 years old and I feel like I am 98 !

Yes. I currently have had a sinus virus/cold for a few weeks and doctor says the sinus inflammation is causing the ringing. I think we tend to think that Zoloft is the cause of all our ailments, but we might just be suffering from a common cold or allergy. I don’t doubt that Zoloft could exacerbate some symptoms, but I got to a point where I was blaming Zoloft on my everything I felt in my body. I have bad health anxiety, so I know that’s why. Try to keep calm and just know like everything else, this too will likely pass. smile

      Hi Debbie

I think I started sert at about the same time as you. I started Dec on 25 mg ..then gradual increases and am now on 150mg. I have been on 150 for 3 weeks and i see no improvement. I have ringing in my ears ..brain zaps..sweaty nights ...anxiety terrible...i was on the kitchen floor again a couple of days ago. I can't go out. I can't even go to the doctors. I felt better than this on 100mg and don't know what to do. I'm off sick from work since nov and now am having money worries. Can I add that I didn't have depression..i am on sert for panic attacks and severe fatigue due to my job and personal family issues.

This illness is horrible ..i feel trapped ..i keep asking myself is sert right for me. Shall I decrease..no way I can increase... all I do is hang around the house and although my family are supportive I'm sure they are getting sick of my moaning.🦄🦄🦄🦄

      Hello Hoopz

I’m sorry to hear that you are suffering so badly. I have hateful T on top of all the other symptoms. It’s hard for others to understand if they haven’t had these symptoms themselves.

Don’t be too hard on yourself, you haven’t chosen this. Why has your GP increased the dosage so much? I’m having hynotherapy to try to help with the horrible anxiety.

I can out a little now, in fact I panic and HAVE to go out even if it’s for only 10 mins.  My woes started in November too and as I live alone I’ve gradually had to try to manage. I have no stamina and life as I knew has disappeared.

If you stay at this dosage the side effects should eventually subside.

Well done for getting this far.

Today I woke up with no anxiety!!!  Tomorrow might be a different story.. but today .. none !!   My ears are still ringing , but I am almost positive I have a sinus infection and I hate to take antibiotics!!!   So happy to hear you are doing better ..
