Hi my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer 8 and a half years ago with a psa of 330.zoladex kept the psa pretty much stable for 7 years then it started creeping up slowly so urologist added casodex alongside the zoladex which stopped the psa rising.the thing is he just had his psa results and his psa had gone up from 3.6 to 4.2 he has a appointment with urology in 2 weeks .what I was want to know is what other drugs could he have alongside the zoladex instead of the casodex ? Many thanks x

I am confused. How was he diagnosed with cancer? Did he have a biopsy? The PSA score by itself does not confirm or disqualify the presents of cancer. If he has cancer, stop worrying about the PSA score and address a plan to treat the cancer. How old is you husband? Younger men need to seek treatment to eliminate the cancer and the earlier stages have more options available. Older men (75 & up) with slow growing cancer probably can get away with active surveillance (but check with your doctor). If he really has cancer, get him the book "You Can Beat Prostate Cancer" by Robert J. Marckini. I just finished it and it is nothing short of brilliant!

Yes he's had a biopsy he was diagnosed with prostate cancer 8 and a half years ago. He's 62 and when it comes to his meetings with his urologist he prefers to bury his head in the sand he doesn't ask many questions because I believe he's afraid of the answers but I respect the fact that this is his cancer and this is the way he wants to deal with it although in the meetings I'm itching to ask questions I don't out of respect for him.so I don't know his gleason score all I know is he had a body scan when first diagnosed with cancer and they said they found a small hot spot on his hip.he is very well in himself walks the dog 3 times a day and keeps hiself busy in the garden I was just wondering is there another drug he can take alongside the zoladex or will they offer him radiotherapy? Thankyou for your reply

I'm not a doctor and don't know about the drugs he is taking. My advice to you is to put your questions down in writing and drop them off to his doctors office and ask them to email you the answers. I know it's his body but you and he are one and what happens to him will ultimately and greatly impact you. I was just diagnosed with prostate cancer so I think I have a reasonable idea of what he has been going through. But in my opinion, he owes it to you to seek proper treatment and you owe it to him to lay the options available at his feet. He must ultimately make the decision of what to do but help him with the research and let him know the stress this is causing you and how it will impact you if the cancer wins. If he broke his arm, you would immediately seek proper aid and take him to the hospital to have the proper procedure to fix the problem. Cancer in my opinion (even slow growing) is a much worse situation. The sooner it is treated, the more options are available. And the better the chance for recovery. I have been told that Prostate cancer is a very painful way to die. I would seek treatment now! I'm very sorry if anything I have said comes across as blunt I just don't know what else or how else to tell you. I will say for me, the more I have learned about the disease and the treatments available, the easier it has become to organize my thoughts and focus on a solution for me. You are in my prayers.

Hope my thought are somewhat helpful to you.
