My elderly mum was on Warfarin for bilateral PEs.  She hated the weekly blood tests for Warfarin so it was replaced with Rivaroxaban (Xarelto) 6 months ago.  Within 4 days of taking it she began to display extreme anxiety & distress when attempting any kind of mobility and would become distressed, shaky and fearful if anyone attempted to assist her. Yet she was calm, compliant and coherent again when seated or lying down.  Has anyone experienced similar side effects with Rivaroxaban (Xarelto)?

    I've heard warfarin is horrible.

A cardiologist gave me a script for rivaroxaban.  I have stomach ulcers and was concerned about the effect it would have on these.  Another cardiologist suggested I take warfarin instead of rivaroxaban.

I got the script filled for rivaroxaban, but on reading the internet, found unfavorable affects using these.  A cardiologist told me that you can come of warfarin easily, but once you try to come off rivaroxaban, it's more dangerous coming off it.

I'm now just taking antenolol ( 1/2 tablet per day) with no side affects. In the past, I had carried antenolol in my wallet and took 1/2 tablet when my heart rate went up to 180 beats per min and wouldn't go down.

    Good luck with your rivaroxaban.

Hi you are quite right ...your cardiologist was wrong recommending rivaroxaban you are not supposed to take it if u have or had stomach ulcers the other 1 was quite right. Have you tried Bisoprozol rather than attenolol for fast heart rate I changed to these and all ok. Wish u well Carroll

      Hi Carroll

No, I haven't tried Bisoprozol.  I will look into it.

The attenolol seems to be ok at present, but have only been taking it for a few weeks since my AF increased after having kidney stones.

I've had AF for several years, but in the past only took a 1/2 tablet when in trouble with high heart rate.

Thanks for your advice Carroll. all the very best to you too !
