rls

I have suffered with restless leg syndrome for years. It began with a mild sensation and urge to move my legs when resting or trying to sleep. It has becme gradually worse especially over the last year. I have been extremly stressed during this time and I am sure this has been a contributory factor in the worsening of the condition. I have tried everthing I can think of to try to elleviate the agony of sleepless nights and discomfort the condition causes but have found nothing that helps for more than a few nights. I really am at my wits end. This condition is stealing my life.[color=red:ac2018471e][/color:ac2018471e]

    Hi there

If you take a look at the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Forum you will find a thread that I posted recently entitled [b:ef565354dc]? Tip for Restless Legs[/b:ef565354dc] (quite a few of us suffer from the horrible condition). It may be helpful to you :D

I have suffered RLS since my 2nd pregnancy 18 years ago.

Worse in summer than winter but I think that is because it is easier to keep them cooler in the winter.

I find if I go to bed at least an hour before I intend to go to sleep helps.

Also keeping your feet and ankles very well moisturised helps. Massage it well in for a good few minutes - when its really bad try massaging the moisturiser into the calf of your leg too.

Tonic water (if you can stomach it) is supposed to be excellent for RLS, I have never tried it though. Apparantly tonic water contains quinnine which is supposed to stop RLS.

I use a cheap moisturiser for the sole (no pun intended) purpose for my feet and legs at night and my normal (more expensive one in the mornings. Don't use vaseline or anything like that as that will hold the heat in and might make your RLS even worse.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I too suffer from restless legs and agree its an awful condition to have. Unless somebody has experienced it you can't imagine the fustration it causes. I've had it for years and especially so when pregnant, which was nearly unbearable. I had a routine blood test and it revealed that I was anaemic. After taking iron pills for a few days the legs improved dramatically. So it might be worth a blood test. I now know that when they get bad that its usually a sign of being anaemic.
