RLS info

Posted , 6 users are following.

I'm 80 years old and have had RLS for over 40 years.   .not only having sleep interrupted, during the day spending alot of time walking about.  I take ropinerole, ,have tried iron tablets, at the moment taking magnesium, so far not making any difference.   I will also now try the FODMAP diet and hopefully that may work.

I have found that a hot bath relieves the symtoms for a short while.

Have you tried freeze ge?l. Not a cure by any stretch of the imagination but I find it sometimes takes the urgency out of the restlessness.

I am nearly 69 and have only had RLS for 2 years. My heart goes out to people like yourself who have had this for so long. I hope the diet helps! Best wishes.

Good Luck with the diet.    This diet seems to have taken away my symptoms.   I had RLS for 50 years or so and the diet took about 12 weeks to work well.   Some people get same day relief.

If I can help dont hesitate to ask.

Just remember to be very strict with the diet.

    Cheers

What is your dosage of Ropinorole? Have you been on it long? Are you taking any other medication at all?

I take 4 1mg tablets a day.   I've been on it a few years,   Its the only thing I take for RLS apart from a magnesium tablet.

If I remember correctly, 4mg/day is the max for Ropinorole. Any chance you have reached augmentation? If so, you would need medication to get off Ropinorole such as Tramadol. Also beware of any of the no-no drugs for RLS such as Amitriptelene, Omeprazole etc. I augmented on dopamine agonists and used Tramadol whilst weaning off them. Tramadol has been my saviour for a couple of years but a recent bad period has been quelled with Ferrous Bisglycinate taken on an empty stomach at night. I am sure there is something out there that will give you relief and it is worth trawling round the forums and asking questions. My specialist told me to learn to become my own expert as most GP's have no idea how to help us!

Just to throw another possible aid into the ring I recently saw a recomendation for

Vitamin B12 (based on methyl cobalamin)100 microgram

      Folate  500 microgram

One tablet of weach once a day

I was told it might take several weeks to have an effect.

As far as I know its harmless but I am not an expert.

It might work for some people so if nothing else is working well it might be worth giving it a try.

      Cheers

Thank you for the info,  Wasn't susre what augmentqation was!    I did try coming off the ropinerole a few years ago but had nothing to help, so ended up having a very uncomfortable 3 days,  Not to be repeated.  At the moment the diet and also taking codeine seems to helping with the sleep,

I've been sticking to the diet, and so far have improvement with  sleeping .still waking but not so often.    I've been able to adjust my smoothie recipe by ,leaving out the  yoghourt and mango.    Find it oddd that flour is  not on the list but crackers are allowed.     .
