Has your husband had his iron, B-12, folate & magnesium levels tested? Is he seeing a neurologist? My doc has me on iron & magnesium supplements, pre-natal vitamins & B-12 injections. I also take a low dose of Mirapex, Gabapentin & Norco. This has helped 98% of the time. I recently had surgery & tonight my RLS is acting up.

I pray your hubby gets some relief. God bless.

I forgot to tell you. If his RLS gets unbearable, what helps me is a hot bath with epsom salts. This helps so much. It relaxes your whole body.

    Hi Jayne

How is your husbands RLS?    I am wondering if you tried the FODMAP diet and if so did it work for him.    Elsewhere in this forum you will see that I am trying a slightly different diet which has a lot in common with the FODMAP diet.   It has been developed by the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia.   It has been found to help some people with RLS.   You start on an exclusion diet which is very strict and then gradually add foods carefully to monitor their effect until you build up a diet that suits your body.    It is pretty restrictive but I have had great success while on the exclusion diet with many nights of zero RLS.   So far re-introducing foods has been a problem but the sleep is very welcome and I am sure I will get to a point where I have a decent diet and no symptoms of RLS.   It might only partially work or it might not work but its definately worth a try in my opinion.

Be in touch with me if you want more information.

Hi. I have been taking pramipexole for several years now. Although the dosage has increased over the years I haven't had any side effects and it enables my RLS to be controlled.

I've read that quinine is effective.  I haven't tried it for my RLS.  I have my own treatment that works very well but the medication isn't for RLS, it's for extreme pain.  Oxycontin (lasts 12 hours).  It was an accidental discovery when I first took it for severe neck and back pain after a car crash, my legs stopped dancing!  When I stopped taking it, they started dancing again!   Maybe you can convince a doctor to let you try a very low dose for a few nights to see if it helps?

Hi I used to suffer real bad from rls for year

I had to go on pain med for an injury, the medication is mst continuum a form of morphine just 5 mg twice a day and my rls dissapeared over night.

A lady I just met says she had rls real bad and hers stopped by drinking tonic water just before bed there's something in tonic water that suppresses rls.

Good luck I hope one of these work, let me know

Hi Jayne if your husband tries a small amount of morphine 5mg in morning 5mg at night the effect takes no longer than 2 days and works 100%. I have a friend who swears by tonic water taken at tea time, there something in it that works immediate let me know how it goes. Good luck

    Hi Jayne

My mother suffers from irritable legs and has been taking lemon water and Bicarbonate of soda mixed and there are no side effects and it has stopped her irritable legs and she can now sleep.what you do is pour a half glass of water and put into that a half tea spoon of bicarbonate of soda then use the juice of one small lemon and add to the water and bicarbonate stir then drink,do this morning and night and it should hopefully stop the irritable legs.

It detoxes the blood.let me know how it goes .

Run this past youir doctor.   I used to used sodium bicarbonate but I was warned that in doses like this it was probably going to cause high blood pressure and affect my chance of living to an old age.     There might be some doubts about this side effect lately but at least her health should be monitored.   I don't know if you can restore any damage done by sodium..   Ask a heart specialist.

Has he tried a combination of Horizant and Requip?  I'm taking the rotigotine patches now because the side effect of the pills made me crazy, but not everyone has the same issues.  My neurologist said sometimes a combination of medications can be necessary.

2 most effective things for me, soaking in a hot bath and using a bean bag as follows:  I make my bean bags with flannel and the cover with fleece.  8 inches by 20 inches, fill with approximately 6 cups of winter red hard wheat berries (so when laying flat about 1 inch high).  Heat in microwave for 2-3 minutes, take out and move around to mix wheat berries, and heat another 2-3 minutes.  Lie in bed face down with rear end up (looking cute:-), and bag at back of knees, between both legs, touching thighs and calfs.  Instant relief.  The wheat berries will stay warm for up to 30 minutes. Adjust legs to what is comfortable over time.
