Roaccutanne - Depression?

Posted , 3 users are following.

Apparently taking Isotretinoin can sometimes cause depression, suicide ideation or to a lesser degree malaise. I talked to a lot of people and have read quite a few case studies and realised how rare this side affect was. Do you think there really is a direct correlation to the use of this drug and depression...? Or do you think that maybe those who did experience some of these side effects had actually experienced before and that Isotretinoin may have "exacerbated" it? I would really appreciate every answer! Thank You! Elaborate as much as you want!

    Hi Bianca

Ive been previously depressed before taking Isotretinion (bout 3yrs ago) and when I was offered Isotretinion knowing that one of the side effects was depression I deliberated hard to take it or not. Ive now been on 70mg a day for 2months now and I feel that it isnt depression you feeling taking it I feel that the side affects get you feeling down more than the actual drug if that makes any sence?

Depression is most likely caused by other symptoms it causes like sexual dysfunction, inital worsening acne and such

I agree with "Tree82". As someone who has suffered with depression in the past and is currently taking 60mg a day, I think it is more the side effects that get you down. Some days when my lips are really cracked and bleeding or I've been experiencing really stiff joints and pains in my back or even new boils popping up ... I really feel like crying and become a horrible person to be around because I can be quite snappy or just a misery. My poor dad doesn't show any signs of frustration with me because I've also taken Roaccutane many years ago and we knew the side effects possible.

I have however read of people being driven to suicide (thought to be caused by the drug) and I don't poohoo what they are saying. I just think that as soon as you feel down speak to your Dermatologist/GP/Anybody and alert them to how your feeling. Most stories you read of the poor souls that took their lives, the families had no idea they were feeling that way. DONT BOTTLE IT UP!
