ROBOTIC ASSISTED TOTAL HYSTERECTOMY

I am 60.  I'm having surgery Dec 28 due to possible ovarian cancer in right ovary (left had cancer 1993)  Read so many things on line about women having organ prolapses, organ damage during surgery, urine issues after this and regretted having it.  Has anybody had a 100% POSITIVE RECOVERY as now I'm scared  .

Hi Suzzie, I had a total ab hysterectomy in September due to ovarian cyst and fibroid mass the size of a melon.  Im 13 weeks down the line and feeling much better.  Before the op I could hardly walk, sleep, eat or move, looked about 10 months pregnant and very uncomfortable.  I was shocked at my diagnosis and didn't want surgery (my bloods were raised too so I also had the threat of cancer, thankfully Ive had the all clear).  After the surgery you'll feel very delicate and sore but stick with the pain relief offered to you for as many weeks as it takes.  If you have a good surgeon then they'll be no issues during surgery.  My bladder felt very bruised for about 6-8 weeks but I had no infections.  I was very careful about hygiene and changing my dressing etc.  I still take laxatives to help as its quite uncomfortable if you can't go!  Get lots of rest, good food and be prepared to leave anything around the house.  It's only for a few months as you'll need to take it very easy.  I was sleeping 2/3 times a day for the first week and then once a day for the weeks after.  Needing to get up for a wee in the night is a nuisance but that improves over time.  I guess I've had that 100% positive recovery you were asking about and you will too if you keep thinking positively and prepare yourself to take a couple of months out for yourself x

It's so good to hear that you had a positive experience. and hope you  continue to get stronger.   I decided though now to just let them remove the remaining ovary and tube, run it through Pathology and then ONLY HAVE THE TOTAL HYSTERECTOMY if the ovary is at all cancerous, even low-grade.   My cyst is 3.1 cm but doubled in size in 2 years and I had cancer in the left ovary in 1993.  (thought i was home-free)  lol    Just decided to find out IF the ovary does test MALIGNANT before undergoing this....I may well be in the hospital te next week getting the total hysterectomy, but will be able to do it with more peace in my heart, as I've spent many many sleepless night not feeling quit right to to undergo a total hysterectomy based on an OVARY that right now they DON'T KNOW whether it IS or ISN'T MALIGNANT.  I feel let's find out for sure, then move forward.

Have a Merry Christmas and HAPPY HEALTHY 2017.  Suzy

    Hi Suzzie,

I had a full hysterectomy in June 2014 and have had no problems at all. Everything went well with the operation and I was just in hospital for 4 days and recovery went really well too.  I had one of my ovaries out when I was 28 due to a large ovarian cyst that grew in pregnancy and then got another cyst in 2014 at the age of 51 so as I had been through the menopause my consultant recommended a total hysterectomy.  Hope everything goes well for you xxx
