i have just heard that low levels of Vitamin D cause aches and pains.  Is this true?  My husband always feels so much better in the sun - is this because of the sunshine Vitamin D?

    Hi there

I don't take vitamin d often - but I did take in the winter during a bad patch.

My understanding is that Vitamin D work with some minerals like Zinc and Magnesium to govern the regulation of the immune system.  I take Zinc and Magnesium most days - and sometimes 2 or 3 times a day - but it was diet changes that has made the biggest difference to me.

There is a vitamin D forum on this site - why not have a look over there and see what people say?

Vit D deficiency can cause muscle and joint pain similar to arthritis when your levels are very low but I'd doubt it is the vit D that makes him feel better in the sun - you only make it in the UK when you have bare skin exposed for about 15 mins a day around lunchtime, early afternoon between May and September. Being out in the sun is a much higher light intensity and warmer - and both make us all feel better.
