Rolling or paraesophageal hernia

Well, tomorrow is the day! My operation is at 7:45 in the morning and we live an hour from the hospital. I will be up in the dark having my shower with the special soap they gave me to use and then my husband will take me to the hospital. I am certain my blood pressure will be high because it always is before an operation for me. I am trying to take it easy today. It will be my last day for quite awhile that I get to chew my food. I am more than ready for this operation as the belching is getting horrendous and the left side hurts a lot. I didn't sleep well last night, maybe nerves but I am generally not feeling 100 percent. I'll write more when I am home again. I'm supposed to be at the hospital for 2 days. My hernia is large with my stomach up in my chest.

    Hi Judy,

All the best for you tomorrow - I'm hoping I get an offer of surgery - as I think I have a sliding hernia - only the consultant didn't tell me - just it was a small 3cm hernia! Here's hoping that you feel much better in a few weeks! Please let me know how you get on!

    Take care!

Hi judy I had my op done on 1st of October (three and a half weeks ago) just starting to be able to shoal low again properly, and starting to get my appetite back. My advice is to take it easy and rest up after op for a good 3/4 weeks don't do to much and don't rush your self recovery wise, I tryed to go back to work last week and had to come home it was abit too soon. As for the op don't worry yourself too much because these operations are fairly routine. Surgeon told me op would take around an hour to an hour an half when he came to see me after op on ward he said it all went brilliantly and it only took 45mins. As for your blood pressure don't worry yourself too much I take medication for high blood pressure which I had to stop 2 days b4 op and I was fine.best of luck for tomorrow and wish you all the best form future.

Hi Linda while I have had relief from my old symtoms of which there was many caused by the hernia heart palpitations and chest pain was one of the worst for me. There are also some draw backs for having the op wind and flatulance being one, I also feel very tired and lethargic at mo which may be due to aftermath of having an op and my body coming to terms which my stomach being altered around. Although it is a fairly routine op I'd say that it is still a big thing for your body to go through, although I'm a young man (32) and relatively fit apart from being a couple of stone over weight I've got a feeling it's going to be a good few months before I'm feeling "normal" again.my advice for you is to listen to what your consultant has to say and then have a good think about what is right for you in the long term! Hope I'm not putting any doubt in to your mind about having op because that's not what I'm trying to do, just wanted to let u know what to expect afterwards! As for post op advice I'd recommend probably buying your self some multi chew able vitamins and minerals and keep your self hidrated with water milf and fruit smoothie. You will probably feel alittle tender for 4/5 days after op and shoulders will hert for 3/4 days due to the gas they inflate your stomach with dying op, hope I haven't gone on too much and bored you too much lol all the best with your op and all the best for future.
