Root Canal from HELL!!!

On February 24, 2016 I went to the dentist office for a root canal, I walked out of his office that day not knowing that he had changed my life as I knew it! During the most unorganized procedure I had ever seen, the dentist drilled a hole through my tooth, when he inserted the sealant it traveled through that hole encapsulating the main nerve in my face. (Trigeminal nerve). The caustic sealant began to eat through my nerve instantly... After weeks of being told that "the sealant will absorb into my body" by the dentist seeing several doctors, including a trip to Dallas, While experiencing the WORSE pain that I have ever felt in my life. I had surgery on June 30th 2016 that lasted 7 hours to replace the damaged nerve with a cadaver nerve. Recovery was a total NIGHTMARE! When I woke up the pain was still there and in addition my jaw had to heal from being cut open like a sandwich to be able to get to the nerve.
The pain went on, like your worse tooth ache TIMES 10! Constantly all day and worse at night!

What a nightmare! I'm so sorry for all the suffering you have endured. I hope you will find relief with help from the neurologist. Have you had an MRI? That's a must. Good luck and keep us posted.

No I haven't Jewell! This will be the first time i see a neurologist believe it ir not! I have seen SEVERAL Neuro Surgeons, pain management but no Neurologist and the only reason they are sending me to him is because they dont know what to do anymore. It is absolutely horrible. I sure hope he can help. Thank you! Im glad I found this group. Everyone can relate. I will definitely post an update! ?

I'm aghast at the incompetence of the medical professionals that you have been to. I'm pretty sure that the only way to the trigeminal nerve is through a small incision behind the ear. Cutting the jaw open and severing it sounds barbaric. I don't know what to say, except good luck, let us know how things go. I'll send up some prayers for you, ok?

My surgeon did the procedure at the same he did the MVD. The side of my face is numb, but that's better than pain. I hope it will be gone in 8 months, like you mentioned, but my surgeon couldn't say how long it would last. I am also having vision issues, like double vision, and that's really a problem for me.
