Root canal now 4 months later tooth has an abscess

I got a root canal done on #19. Got a crown and cap paid extra to get it in the same color. Now 4 months later I has a little pain so went to the dentist( I switched insurance so I had to switch dentist) for an X-ray. The lady looks at the X-ray and says we need to pull the tooth. I just got a root canal 4 months ago now it needs to be pulled!!!!!! Didn't I get the root canal so something like this wouldn't happen??? I have no pain whatsoever now it is not sensitive to hot or cold and it does not hurt at all!? I know that an aprico or a re root canal can be done. My insurance will not cover a dental implant which will cost me $3500. I am still paying off the rootcanal md now it has to be pulled. Doesn't sound right. I have these X-rays in a odd if you would like to see them.

However, I find it unlikely you will need to pull the tooth. You WILL need to get it worked on though. You may not feel any pain right now but if there is an infection then you only have a couple of months before it gets bad enough for you to feel the pain. Teeth often need work well before they hurt; when they hurt it's going to cost money.
So here's what you do. You go to an endodontist, they will x ray tooth 19 to verify there is infection, they will drill a small hole into the crown, usually from the back, clean out the infection and put a temporary paste over the hole. 2 weeks later you will return for them to x ray and verify that the infection is gone and the tooth is healing and then give you the go ahead to return to a regular dentist to get a permanent filling in the crown where they drilled.
I don't know what your insurance is, on ours this normally costs about $200 for all of the visits, follow ups and the repatch of the crown. You do not need to lose the tooth and you do not need to get an implant. I would recommend going to a completly different dentist for the repatch or even for a second opinion and referral to an endodontist because it sounds like your new one is not a conservative dentist and is just trying to bill as much as possible.
Hope this helps.
