Rotator and bicep tear on right side

I had rotator cuff and bicep surgery in Aug. of 2017. The surgery went well, and I started therapy a week or so after my surgery. Therapy was very painful for awhile, but I continued. It's been hard getting a good night's sleep, and the pain continued here and there. At the end of October, I started having some neck pain on my right side; the same side of my surgery, so the therapist had me doing some neck exercises to. As time went on, the pain just got worse! I called the doctor's office and informed them of this. The doctor thought it might be coming from my shoulder. He prescribed me some muscle relaxers, but of course that didn't help! I've had 2 cortisone injections since I had my surgery, and I don't want to keep getting anymore. I almost had to go to the ER, because the pain in my neck has gotten so bad, but I didn't. I don't like going to the ER; you wait forever it seems. I kept complaining about this pain, so I finally had a xray of my neck, and been doing therapy on my neck and shoulder. I also went to see a Neurologist surgeon on Jan. 3rd so I could get some more info. He told me that he thought it was coming from my shoulder, and wanted to have a MRI of my neck and shoulder. I'm in constant pain, and it has done nothing but stress me out! My shoulder started hurting more a few days ago too, and I'm so frustrated. I want to know what's going on with my neck, and why it hurts so much!! I've rubbed biofreeze on my neck and shoulder and have taken pain medication; even icing, but no change!! I wanted to go back to work, but how can I with my neck hurting so much; all the time!! I have to wait now until MRI's are approved.

That sounds very frustrating. I think MRI is the right thing to do. I hope you don't have to wait long. It can get confusing with pain in areas so close. The body is a chain. If something happens in one place, the chain can be affected. You are altering the way you sleep and do things in general. My neck is fused at 3 levels due to an accident 8 years prior to my shoulder surgery. My neck definitely went through a flare up after surgery. part of it was due to the interscalene block. Also having altered the way I sleep and function. Once I started therapy and was able to get out of the sling things got a little better. I had 2 very good therapist doing manual therapy on me and also had a session with a very good massage therapist who specializes in myofascial release. But you need the MRI to rule out neck pathology. If the MRI is negative then the pain is most likely from the shoulder surgery. That would actually be good news because you can continue to address the shoulder. I am now almost 1 year from my surgery. There are definitely ups and down in the recovery process. I hope this resolves quickly for you.

Thank You Ricochetred! You went through a lot, and thank God you are coming along. Therapy hasn't helped as of the last several weeks, and my therapist has even done traction a few times, and within a hour, my pain is back again which is frustrating. The xray only showed a little arthritis, but wouldn't cause this kind of constant pain, and have my shoulder and biceps to hurt all over again; which concerns me. A close friend of mine mentioned yesterday that it could most likely be something with my nerves from maybe the surgery. I've been so stressed out for several months now, because I was ready to go back to work, but with so much pain, I'm afraid I won't be able to! I work in a kindergarten class, and I wouldn't be able to bring my head forward without the pain starting! I deal with this at home, and at church! I've Never experienced this type of pain before; that's what's so scary to me. I appreciate your comments too! It really helps to have people to talk to. God bless you!
