May 31st, 2017. My step dad arrived home after a late shift complaining of back pain (my step dad is not all that forthcoming with pain!) However it was unbearable for him. He took himself off to bed and when the pain moved around to his groin we called an ambulance. After they spoke with my stepdad on the phone we still had a twenty minute wait before they turned up. They took all vital observations and when his BP was low they decided to take him up to the hospital for "investigation". By the time my mum and I followed to the hospital 5 minutes away, the anerusym had burst and he flat lined in the ambulance. An ultrasound was completed and showed that JS (stepdad) had a ruptured aneurysm and was bleeding out into the abdomen. The professionals at the hospital informed my mum and I that JS woud pass away and that we needed to say our goodbyes and offered to call family. myself, my mum and her husband were placed in a room by ourselves and left alone with only a bp cuff attached. By this stage JS was lifeless on the bed, grey in color and cool to touch.... however he kept opening his eyes and trying to move. After having been informed with what we were just told we were confused.... I went and told the nurses and the doctor then explained to us that he had "sleeping brain". In other words just the nerves in the brain making him move as they lose function...... still no hope.... all we could do was stand there and hold his hand as he fought with us to get up. Then the dying man found enough energy and began to vomit. Blood...... so much blood. He was struggling and flat on his back so I told mum "help me get him on his side". We were yelling for help but nobody came. We threw him on his side and then I ran out of the room to get someone!!....... the doctors came finally and told us that his vomit had blocked the hole of the ruptured aneurysm.
