Ruptured ear drum, on meds, constant fluid won’t let hole close.

An ocean wave slapped the side of my head and ruptured my eardrum.

4 days later my whole family got a cold and cold symptoms started.

2 days later yellow discharge from the ear. Local urgent care gave me antibiotics.

5 days of meds and the tail end of the cold symptoms, but the fluid hasnt stopped.

The ear feels like i'm underwater with a constant loud ringing noise until the liquid pressure re-opens the hole and it drains out.

The closest ent appointment is another week away. Am I okay to wait that long? Is the liquid while on meds normal? Or maybe because of the cold? Why isnt it draining down the eustachian tube? And if its still draining in another week? Surgery to unclog the tube?

I've read your entire post, but I couldn't identify if you were, in fact, diagnosed with a ruptured eardrum by the doctor who saw you in the emergency room.

The first thing I would advise you to do is to see an ear doctor, but since you already have an appointment, I guess you'll have to wait.

You need to observe if you have lost hearing acuity in the affected ear, if you feel pain or something.

I am not a doctor, but the fluid could be either seawater coming out of your ear or an infection.

Keep an eye out. Get well!
