Salt Restriction Problems

My father has stopped taking salt because of salt retention in his stomach due to liver cirhosis. But now he says that chocolate seems so sweet to him that its disgusting. Even the tasteless cracker seem sweet to him now. Is that normal?

Hi, I don't know if it is normal but I have to say when I stopped taking salt I found that I suddenly really wanted sweet things, that doesn't sound to bad apart from the fact that all my life I have hated sweet things and I also think that most things are tasteless even if it smells lovely. I don't suppose it's a bad thing I saves more problems like diabetes or at least makes it less likely. Good luck

Hi salt is actually the sweetest mineral on earth so maybe now he's cut it out it could be that's why it tastes sweeter to him

Sorry, I don't know but I do know that he should be checked regularly for liver cancer.  The cirrohis increases his chance of getting it and loss of apetite is not a good sign.  I hope his doctor is watching that.
