Salt salt salt...

Co- Codamol. So we have the Paracetamol, overdose or long term use will kill you. By overdose so many get hooked on the codeine and take them like sweets forgetting the silent killer, Paracetamol. I am one of the victims of my doctors giving them out like sweets year on year on year.

Yet there is another twist to this legal drug. If you are older, suffer with being over weight maybe. Blood pressure. If you take 8 Co-Codamol a day, the prescribed max you can have, you will also be taking 50% more of your daily max of salt intake. So if you have been using this drug for a long time chances are you might have higher blood presser than you need have. As we know salt is also a killer over the years if used to excess….

So we have a triple whammy. Drug dependence on the Codeine, and just a few a few times a week will increase.

Paracetamol, kills the liver and kidneys with long term use.

And salt, another silent killer.

What do I know…. I have been hooked to codeine for many, many years, popped Co-Codamol four times a day sometimes a bit more. Taken as well Dihidrocodine for pain.

I am not well, yet nearly off this crap, and O how much better I feel. The constant dry mouth, thirst, and at times heavy head has lifted. The pain in my sides is still there, the need to wee at night has lessoned. Yet the totally washed out, constant tiredness, and feeling of not being well, still sits hard as it did while I was taking this muck.. I have some hospital tests this week to follow on from the blood tests I have had…

Don’t be a mug; don’t use this drug if you are young and looking for a high. All other people reading this, Think on.

    IS this fact?

YES it is. My story is also fact, totally honest and only placed here so others can learn from it... sadly so many will question it as they are addicted to the drug.

Who said I was addicteed?!?!!? I take them as and when with other medication. You shouln'd jump to conclusions of people who take certain medication

OK there is always going to be one. I did not say you were addicted, you have jumped to that idea. I am not interested in people who try to be cleaver here. The facts are here to help those with a problem, as you don't have a problem then I would say maybe you don't need to comment. So many kids are now hooked into this drug, one third of all 17 to 19 year olds.. I am here to help not have someone like you look for a problem.

"there is always going to be one"? If you have seen any of my previous posts then you would know that I do not "try and be clever" as you put it. Your words were "so many will question it as they are addicted to the drug" after I asked if this was a fact. Therefore insinuating that I was addicted to paracetamol. I asked if this was a fact because I DO take paracetamol and I have never heard this before and was trying to get more information on this, If you don't want people to question what you put, and then take offence from the remarks that you make from the question asked to you, then I would suggest you don't post on here. I have no interest in children being addicted to the drug, and as I stated earlier, was trying to clarify something if this was a proven fact. If I was looking for problems I can assure you I would probably have already been kicked off this site a dozen times over. (That is also a fact)

I am sorry I have worked in this area, I am here to help and don't wish to partake in childish banter.

Again the doctors are despicable for over prescribingsome a dangerous high dependent drug and the sad bit is it is only people like us that have become hooked over years of use and mouse that know symptoms we now get are implacable to something far more serious now healtbwise.

I for the first time have found someone who I can totally empathise with and read your posts when you give your honest insight.

I feel co codamil users are and should be talking with each other and maybe we can find solutions to helping us wean off this stuff as copperbottomed gives me a feeling I feel it can be done . I would love to know more about you and and hope you are feeling better .

I think another thing because this is a silent potentially deadly addiction we need to have some people we can be honest with this brutal honesty on how we feel and what this is really doing to us is a relief to me as none of my friends or family know the honest truth with this dirty addiction how I need a tablet just to function.

      Hello Amanda

Thank you, yes we have both like so many been hooked into a legal drug, our dealers the doctors/chemists have without doubt just left us to get on with our habits.. Since the chemists new guidlines of only selling you a few days worth and not letting you buy more another day, and if you trun up again in a months time wont give it to you. Non persciption users troll the chemists all over different areas to get their monthly fix. Some are taking very large doses of co-cod putting the Paracetamol levels into liver damage mode.

So many people deny their habit, some say “ I only take a few as and when I need them” All drug users lie, hide, get angry, do anything to protect their habits, and will not until they are ready to admit and ask for help..

I am so glad you have the honesty to face the need to get rid of this drug. I have been through so many tests, that my feeling tired all the time has been passed off to stress. I have to laugh because the last thing I am is stressed. It’s the codeine without doubt. A private consultant I had used for a physical problem told me years ago that I needed to stop using Codeine, how dangerous it was, that it could even make the long standing pain condition I had, worse. He told me I was an addict.. did I listen, no of course not no one was going to stop me taking my doctors prescribed relaxant and painkiller.

I am today at 16 mil three times a day, just codeine no co-Codamol, if I need paracetamol I will only take the tablet form not the fizzy type in co- co.

Sit down and start to look at a withdrawal plan, even if it’s just taking half a pill less, or even a ¼. Or if you have the free time, a good week, maybe go cold turkey.. whatever you do look to give it a miss. If you need a pain killer have a talk with your G P and tell them you have a problem can they help.. can they give you if you have a pain problem a different painkiller..

Come on you can do this, keep talking.
