Salvage Radiotherapy (SRT)with Cyberknife

Hello

I am a bit more than a year out from my surgery, PSA undetectable at one year anniversary. I imagine at some point in time the PSA will become detectable again indicating a recurrence. I had no immediate post op radiation or hormone therapy. I ask the following question in anticipation of someday being in the position of needing  SRT.

Has any one undergone salvage radiation treatments specifically using the "CyberKnife" after a radical prostatectomy that triggered by an increase in PSA a year or more after surgery? I did a little reading and it sounds like its a more sophisticated version of stereotactic radiotherapy but not totally sure. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Strange post. If you're undetectable after 12months using the uPSA, that is, <.01 I believe you should be celebrating that you have a 90+% chance you're cured rather than looking at salvage treatments.

What makes you think your PSA will return?

Thanks for the reply and I appreciate the pep talk. I'm glad it was caught when it was but 90% still isn't 100%. It may not return for many years if at all but I would still like to get straight in my head what is available to me should that day come. There may be something new by the time I need it or I may be hit by a bus tomorrow. Difficult to predict the future. I am interested in a personal experiences regarding SRT.

I understand the anxiety, I was G9(5+4), but if your psa is undetectable, that is, <.01. It's most likely you're cured. If by some chance your psa becomes detectable you're going to monitor it until you get successive rises to rule out benign growth, which will take time, so if I was you I'd enjoy the fact it looks like you're cured and if you do get a detectable psa start looking at salvage therapies then.

The other positive in your favour is that if psa returns after a period of time, it's most likely a local recurrence in the prostate bed and so salvage treatments more successful.

I'm now 20 months <.01 and given the high grade still find it hard to believe I'm likely cured but if you look at the stats from studies and research like me I think you'll feel reassured.

    Hello DJ,

Live your life in the present time. Worry for future when it arrives.

Celebrate your <0.01 PSA as cured for now and enjoy your life. You should rather worry about sex and if you’re able to perform now.
