Same recurring symptoms for 8 years - no explanation.

Would appreciate any suggestions on what has become a real mystery illness. I first went to my local doctor almost 7 years ago after I'd been unwell for about 3 weeks. The symptoms included a feeling of pressure in my ears, a minor sore throat or swelling around the thyroid area, aching muscles, lethargy, and an overwhelming feeling of fatigue that was causing me to sleep for hours during the day. I was given a basket of medicines to treat the symptoms and sent away. Over the course of the next few months I was regularly back at the same clinic as I simply wasn't getting better. I seemed to be stuck in a pattern where I might feel okay for a few weeks or months, then I'd be back sick again for a few weeks. Every time I went to the doctor they would take blood tests and would tell me about indicators for a virus. On occasions they would say I had a high red or white blood count. As time went past with no improvement I was referred to various specialists. This included ECG tests ENT test, MRI, CTI and visits to neurologists and rheumatalogists. In all cases they told me they could see nothing unremarkable and I was left no closer to an explanation. At the time of writing, I've been unwell for about 2 weeks. This is very standard and I expect I might get over this bout in about 1-2 weeks. I will then be absolutely fine for anything between 1 month and 4 months. Unfortunately it always recurs but I can't identify any reason or trigger. Here in Dubai, the doctors just want to look for psychological issues and prescribe anti-depressants. I am 100% sure this is not the answer.

I can add that this illness doesn't prevent me keeping fit. I actually feel better when exercising but that doesn't keep the symptoms away for long. Trying to work when dealing with this is almost impossible. It feels to me that my body is fighting something of a glandular nature but I'm frustrated that no-one can tell me what it is or why it has been going on so long. Any ideas most gratefully appreciated.

Well it could be a virus which has kick started all these problems. Identifying it is the problem. Have you had your thyroid thoroughly checked out?
