hi I'm 45 and due to have this op in 3 weeks the removal of my ovaries and Fallopian tubes due to a cyst on my ovary, it's the 3rd time I had one. The previous removed by general surgery but this one is by laparoscopy. I'm quite nervous about it all. Can I please have some advice on after care.

Just take it easy afterwards, you'll have three small cuts, mine were stitched with dissolvable suture. One will be in your navel.
You will feel bloated, and may have shoulder pain for a few days due to the air that is pumpd in.
you will get tired easily for a few weeks afterwards if you do too much. No lifting or bending and stretching for a while.
I don't know about bathing, as I had a prolapse repair done at the same time, so couldn't have a bath, just showers for a few weeks.
on the whole, the surgery you are having done wasn't too bad at all.
Good luck, and try not to worry too much.x.

Hi Lianne,
I had this surgery in the last 2 months and have healed well.I had left Ovary and both fallopian tubes removed in 2012 due to a large Dermoid Cyst and then grew another Dermoid on my right ovary this year and had no choice but to remove that too.
You've put Ovaries? Are both being removed? If yes, like me you will be plunged into Surgical Menopause,so make sure your surgeon/consultant goes through this with you.
Post surgery I had no complications.I was hugely bruised and swollen for 3 weeks but after that things went back to normal.I had 3 incisions,1 in my Navel and 2 on my side.My Navel had internal/disolvable stitches and slathered in surgical glue. You will have to take life easy and be careful for a few weeks.I found hot flushes set in days after surgery and became unbearable. With advice from my Consultant I had no choice but to go on HRT and so far I am feeling the best I've felt in years.
Try not to worry too much about the Op.Ive found all the hospital staff were so nice and really look after you so well.
All the best 💖

Thank you for the advice ladies, yes I'm having both ovaries and tubes removed, dreading the menopause bit. Also will there be vaginal bleeding too. And although I'm going for laparoscopy do you think I should take an overnight bag just in case x

I'm sure your consultant will go through things with you.You might not be too bad Menopause wise and I had to wait 5 weeks before I saw mine to decide.Im 46 so close in age to you.
I was a day case but packed a small bag anyway. Its usually recommended to have a bag packed just incase, especially if it's a long drive for someone to bring things to you if you get kept in.I packed a light dressing gown, pads, wipes, phone charger, tooth paste and brush etc just in case.I was actually on my period when I went into theatre so considering that I didn't bleed much at all after.Youll need to wear a pad for a week or so.I had more of a stained discharge for 10 days. Comfy loose underwear and trousers are a must for the first few weeks and I would recommend eating lightly a day or 2 prior to surgery and drink plenty of water as you'll find the Anaesthetic can dehydrate you.
Try not to worry and enjoy being able to get out and about before you're laid up for a week or so x
