Sarcoidosis or lung cancer

Posted , 10 users are following.

All, I've been experiencing arthritis and uveitis and my rheumy suggested that I may have sacoidosis so she ordered a chest x-ray.  I had acute bronchitis so I had a chest x-ray done at a local clinic.  The x-ray found a large mass (4 cm x 2.5 cm) in my left lung.  I'm really hoping this is sarcoid related and I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I'm going to have a CT scan done soon but I can't think of anything else except for lung cancer.

    Hi Ron

They thought I had asbestois from my Xrays.

So it might not be as bad as it seems.

Hope that is the case for you.

    Regards

    Hi Ron

I was told I had an abnormaility filling my chest. I asked what it that meant and was told oh nothing to worry about. They then put me in a double barriered room in isolation. They thought it was TB and then that led to cancer. I had CT, MRI Xrays. A student Dr came in and said they are going to cut my throat open break my breast bone apart and inveistgate my chest and remove anything that needed to be removed. Thats nothing to worry about !!! I had to have ultra sound on my neck and abdomen as they were looking ofr enlarged lymph nodes to indicate cancer. I cried all the way through it. Like you say you hear cancer and before you know it youve planned what time is left, complete panic in silence and sheer terror

Sarcoid is confirmed by biopsy. Sometimes the medics dont think it through what or how they tell you. You hear cancer and nothing else

Its hard but try to keep a positive view on it. It doesnt have to be cancer.

All the best for your scans

    Nicola

I'm actually going through this now , gp suspected TB through an Xray they hospitalised me 2 days ago in an isolated room. Physician requested tests to confirm it's not TB I just went for a CT scan and that's were he picked up sacodosis , they now planning a biopsy to confirm and I'm all lost with this thing , does this relates to cancer ?

    HI Ron,

I'm new here and have only been diagnosed with Sarcoidosis in the past few weeks.

After persistent problems over the past 18-24 months, the doctors finally sent me for a chest X-ray. The doctors were not happy with the results as I had very enlarged lymph nodes (they're enlarged to 3 or 4 cms) in the chest and my lungs were showing evidence of cell change around the outside.

They sat me down and basically told me that they believed it was either Sarcoidosis or Lymphoma. Needless to say, I freaked. Until I had a bronchoscopy, I continued to panic, however, despite all the stressing it was Sarcoid.

Even if the signs look bad, try not to let yourself focus only on the worst outcome! I've been through so many medical situations where I've essentially been told the worst, only to have it come to nothing. You have to keep positive and keep moving forward. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, either way smile

Thanks for the replies.  I had my CT scan today and expect the results tomorrow.  I'm just scared because of the size of the mass on the x-ray.  I don't think sarcoidosis nornally causes masses like that.  I plugged some numbers in a table and it said I have a 75% of having cancer.  I also saw another study that said that only 2% of abnormal chest x-rays lead to a cancer diagnosis.

    Ron,

Find your self a pulmonary doctor who specializes in Sarcoidosis so that you can get a definitive answer to your condition.  If it is Sarcoid, then you can get the help you need for this condition.  I've been going to support groups for the disease for 20 years now and find 3 or 4 patients a year who are diagnosed initially as having lung cancer.  A pulmary specialist is able to tell them "It's only Sarcoid".

I wish you all the luck in the world.

Had a very similar experience. Little masses in my lungs. All tests were non-conclusive, so a physical biopsy was ordered. It was found to be sarcoid. - John

    Hello Ron.

I am no doctor but you MUST do the simple biopsy and it will be confirmed as Sarcoidosis...or not. You can then make informed decisions on your healthcare and a way forward. And RULE No. 1......stay positive!

    Kind regards

    David
