Saw new consultant & yet more drugs 😩

Hi all

Saw my new consultant tonite who seems much more personable so that was a good start! Had to start from scratch as he didn't have my file?! Told him about the blood, mucas, pain & swelling after eating, constantly feeling bloated even when completely empty and he said I could x Ray u now or u could just trust me - you decide?! I chose to trust him & he said you're completely backed up with poo, I didn't believe him as I have a 'proper movement' every morning & he said I can tell u now that you have 4-5 days worth of Poo stacking up and this is why I am getting all of the above symptoms. He has doubled my dose of asacol from 3 to 6 a day, back on pred foam for a month & on 3 lots of laxatives a day for a month!!

I had to larf as I take iron supplements as I was told to do so by my gp but he said it was a big no no. He told me to cut out carbs if I want to shed the pounds which I found a bit necky as I wasn't looking for diet tips, I just wanted him to tell me why i've gained 1st 7lb in 4 months when my diet is now better than before but he blamed it on everything else bar the meds...as they all do!!

I was told again that diet & certain food groups shouldn't trigger uc but was told to manage it myself as its my body and they are there to support me but not to manage me. We can chose how many pills we take too, didn't realise that?

Have to wait and see what effects I get from all this jollop and see if anything works or helps with the pains. He said when I eat, it just sits there and puts pressure on my colon which is why it's going into spasm & probably the extreme bloating!

I hope this helps anyone else out there suffering with the same problems. If u think your poo on the bristol stool chart is good then think again as apparently with uc it should be soft and not fully formed - news to me!! I was proud of my fully formed poo too but now back to diarrhoea again - oh the joys!

This consultant is apparently 'top dog' in ibd so hoping what he said is the truth! Can't wait for my 10+ a day toilet trips again 🚽💩🔥😩

Hi Mummajojo1978, interesting discussion with your new consultant, did you feel confident with him and did he portray confidence in what he said to you? I find it interestig that he says it is up to you what tablets you take, but overall he knows the quantity that works per bodyweight etc. however, you know how you feel so you do need a voice. Who is he and where is he based? I trust my consultant and feel I can ask him anything and he takes my comments on board.

I hope you start to come through this and feel better soon.

Hey Jo,glad you liked new consultant and had faith in him, very important for us UC'ers I think.Interesting about the soft, unformed poo,I was lead to believe that formed poo was sign of colon healing and remission? Makes sense about the soft part tho, less damage to already sore colon? I was told from day one that I can manage my own meds, that is increase for flare, decrease in remission. Currently I take 2g Asacol split in two doses,ie 3 in am and 2 at pm. I will experiment with laxatives and see if I can reduce/eliminate these bloody cramps!!!! Hope you don't go running to the loo 10 times a day, think that defeats the object a tad!!!! Please let us know how you get on with new meds,I think we all have to share tips with this horrid disease,so Thankyou for sharing Jo and good luck xxxxxx
