Saw psychologist today, went good

Hi

Talking to psychologist today about dizziness and she was an physicians assistant for 20 years that's why I chose her. I described the dizziness to her and she suggested the neurologist because she said it sounds like it's coming from my neck not so much inner ear. She said the neck nerves talking to the brain and can cause dizziness. She worked in neurology for 20 years. So I've made an appt to see someone next week.

She said we will work on the anxiety and the fears that are keeping it going. I'm hopeful.

Thanks for sharing. What kind of doctor is she. After being on this site I think my dizziness has something to do with my neck too. I have been working really hard on good posture ever since my first visit with the physical therapist.

She is a psychologist not a doctor, but she was a physicians assistant for a neurologist for 20 years and knows a lot about dizziness. She said a neurologist can help determine if it's in the neck and if so be able to help fix it.

I've had neck pain for years and now this dizziness with it and a headache.

I hope you find relief as well. What type of dizziness do you have? How long have you had it and are you on any meds for it?

It has been over three months. It actually got a little better then when we got rear ended and dizziness came back 100% of the day album along with being light headed. I don't take any medication for dizziness. I am going to really start looking into the pain in my neck. I can't stand how I feel. How did yours start?

It came out of nowhere I had been doing some riggerus exercise and about 2 hours after I had the attack, I felt like my head was bouncing a ball inside it. That was almost a year ago. No it's this rocking/swaying feeling. It happens we're I'm sitting standing it's just there. Fine with a headache and neck and upper shoulder tightness. I've had it all day today this feeling like I'm on a boat. I'm hoping the Amitripyline I started will help at least it's helping with the anxiety.

My otologist and vestibular therapist  told me the same thing.  Part of my problem is "cervicogenic dizziness", which comes from the neck. I even have dizziness issues when I shampoo my hair, as touching my scalp sets off my dizziness. I am seeing a chiopractor, and my therapist is teaching me ways to loosen up the pressure points in my neck by using tennis balls or shoe laces.  Sounds crazy, but it helps some. The rest of my problem is extreme visual dpendency, which makes me feel like I am bouncing on a trampoline or like i am walking on a rocking boat.  I am doing gaze stabalization exercises to help with that. I have been seeing some improvement. I have noticed that stress does make everything worse. Good luck with your appointment next week.  I went to four doctors before I found one who sent me for vestibular testing to find out my problem was with my eyes and neck, not my inner ear.

      Hi kikili

Wow what you've got going on sounds exactly like me, down to the shampooing the hair, when I get into the shower and start washing my hair I feel like I'm on a fair ride in my head and bending to shave my legs when I stand back up the dizziness hits again, Makes showering scarey.

My VRT therapist says I have visual dizziness also and like you when I'm walking it's like being on a trampoline or walking on a boat. The rocking bobbing feeling.

Stress abbé anxiety make it so much worse.

I will find out about cervicognic dizziness the psychologist believes that has a big part in it.

Thanks for sharing your symptoms, I'm sorry you have this but I'm glad at the same time to talk to someone with the same thing

Are you taking meds? How long have you had this? I sure hope we all find help to be well again

I am off all my meds.  I took valium and meclizine for six months to try and help with the dizziness. My otologist said the meds made me worse, as they supressed the good parts of my vestibular system, so I learned use my eyes to try to compensate for my lack a balance system. Now I have to retrain my eyes and brain to function together.  The vestibular therapy is helping with the visual dizziness. The cervical dizziness seems trickier to solve.  I can't wait for the day when I can go to the salon for a hairut. It is just too impossible now because of the scalp dizziness.  I hope your doctor can get you referred to a good vestibular therapist.

That sounds so like me. I am visually dependent, I am told and the gaze stability has helped a lot but it just keeps coming back. The exercises are not so effective now as they don't make me dizzy. I would like to solve this rocking side to side and shaky legs.

I have had cranial osteopathy and it helps. Has anyone tried acupuncture and found it helped?

Having the same isssue when I have my dizziness everytime my dizziness is set off my neck has been paining. doctors again are looking at inner ear and when the MRI showed nothing they believe it is BPPV. but when I tell them my neck has been bugging me and when I touch my neck it sets off nasuea they said it is completely unrelated, cant be from neck. How did you finally get a dr. to send you for testing?

I made an appointment with an otologist who specializes in inner ear  disorders.  she sent me for the vetibular testing. Regular ENT doctors don't know enough about this. I did research online and read the doctors credentials to make sure they pecialized in vetibular disorders.  It took two months to get the appointment, as there are not a lot of otologists around.  I am lucky to live near the Cleveland Clinic, as they have some very good doctors.

Interesting.  My neuro sent me to phys therapy for my jaw/neck, thinking it was at least contributing to my troubles.  I have learned some things... firstly, it is muscle for me- no surprise since I supposedly have fibromyalgia.  But some imbalance on the left.  I am told my neck, jaw, shoulder, pectoris muscles are messed up on the left (my bad ear side, my migraine side).  The source is unknown, but I suspect stress, sleeping conditions (mattress/pillows), and carrying purse on that side.  I also think hormones have escalated this.  We are looking into new mattress/pillow types.  I also bought a cross-body purse and loop it over the right shoulder.  I am better, not cured.  Stress is huge with this, and i find i do not handle it well.

    Hello Patty,

I've been to the eye doc, ENT doc and went to the Chiropractor because I too thought it may be the neck....No luck yet. Next week I am going to the Cardio Doctor, Hoping some luck with my dizziness while driving on the Highway.  Let us know what happens with the Neurologist.....not even sure what they do....but good luck!  Your psychologist sounds great, with her background she may look at the total picture just not her specialty.....thats a problem with this, the specialist says sorry not my area.....good luck, John
