Scaphoid Tubercle Fracture after 8 months

Hi,

Last jJanuary (8 months ago), I took a good fall while skateboarding.

I had a concussion and don't remember the fall so I went to the ER (yes, I was wearing a good helmet). After they looked at my CT scan and said I could go home, I told them my wrist was hurting quite a bit. It wasn't bruised or swollen so they told me it was probably a sprain and I didn't need to worry about it.

I put it in a wrist guard and 5 days later it kept getting worse so I went to urgent care where they did an x-ray and told me it as just a sprain and "maybe a bruised bone", I asked for a splint that I wore for a couple weeks.

The pain remained so I finally got an appointment with an orthopedic doctor in April (we'll call him Dr Z). He did an x-ray and told me that I broke my scaphoid tubercle. It turns out the fracture was also visible on the x-ray I got at urgent care, they just missed it because it was fairly small.

He said it had started to heal so I didn't need to worry about it, it should heal on its own. In July, I definitely had less pain but still had some so he ordered an MRI and told me there was still a fracture but that it was healing.

Last week, I saw an orthopedic doctor for a knee injury and I asked her opinion about my wrist. She said I should definitely get it checked out again by Dr Z who has been taking care of it because the fact that I still have pain is definitely not a good sign.

I contacted Dr Y who told me that I didn't need to worry about it, that the fracture is probably just really slow at healing. The only reason I should come see him is if it got worse.

I rarely get pain when it's at rest: the only things that really hurt are putting weight on the site of the fracture or flexing my wrist (especially if my fingers are extended for some reason).

Should I keep waiting? I try to be careful aout not doing anything that hurts my wrist too much but I am a really active person and sometimes feel a bit limited in what I can do.

Yuk, c12182,had something similar when I was 16,jumping bycicle ramps, came down, and the impact, hurt my wrist didn't think much of it, wouldn't bother me, but when I would use a curling bar, to lift weights it would hurt, only that motion,?, finally after couple months, mom took me to the doc, tired of my complaining, and voila, it was a hair line fracture, had to cast it up, plastic waterproof cast, for few months but it healed, yeah maybe your docs, missing something, keep letting them know all's not well, get another opinion!!!
