Scar is suddenly sore 10 months after operation

Hi all,

Yesterday my scar started to feel sore and tender. It isn't inflammed or hot so I am confused why this has happened or what it is. i have no fat on my hip area and i have been exercising a lot on the cross trainer so wondered if its stretched the scar. Any ideas ?

    Its 11 months since i had the op,

    My scar seems to be sore when l do too much , bio oil is good seems to help. It comes and goes so sure its ok, we all do too much at times, good luck. Linda

      Thanks so much Linda thats reassuring . I'm on the cross trainer 4 times a week! I'll rub in some bio oil .

      I have found (THR & 2 revisions) that Bio Oil is good, and I use a quite firm massage over the scar area which helps with any sensitivity.

      Also, a qualified physio who has had double THR advised me to get a 'muscle stick' roller to help with thigh pains, quite cheap off the internet and it works wonders.

      Does the 'muscle stick' have spikes on? I have some spikey massage balls, I assume they would work just as well.

    Hi Lucy,

    I am three weeks off a year post op and I feel like my scar area is tight, bit like it is pulling, hard to explain really, occasionally I feel a tingle. I feel it more after exercise and I do a lot of exercises. I do not have my year follow up until the middle of May when I can ask questions. Hoping it is still healing going on inside.

      Thanks thats good to know. mine is tight too so probably thats one of the reasons. reassured! Alas i was signed off after 9 weeks so no follow ups for me!

    hi just wanted you to know that i had my hip done 2 yrs now and my scar still becames sore even now i hope i have not upset you to much with saying what i said but i dont neal as good as i used to at 65 now i need my other one done but it take 5 yrs to have my frist one done it is all becouse im in a wheelchair hope you go on alright all the best marion

    been to hospital today 5 months post OP scar still sore he said it takes a year and more exercise you do the more it will hurt as it stretches but my bone hurts down thigh bone so he going to inject it to make pain bit better x
