Scar line

Posted , 6 users are following.

hi all, I had my lasted visit from nurse who was very pleased with the healing of the incision line, but nothing to do with the staples that had been removed, I have in some parts along either side a ridge that looks like there is something pulling tight and not allowing the skin either side to lay flat.

Hope I have explained it sufficient it is mainly in the middle of the length of the scar.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Pretty normal. Given time they witll flatten out. This can be helped with vit. E oil or many reccomend a product called Bio (this doesn't seem to be available in the US.). Another I have recently heard of is Tea Tree oil. I have had a terrible issue for over 1 1/2 years with scar tissue from hip to knee caused by a plate and screws that were inserted to help heal a broken femur. After using Vit E Oil once a day for less than a week and really rubbing it in deep and hard I have seen valuable progress. I hope by the time I get my new knee inserted (June 22) that the scar tissue will be completely gone. I have used it to some degree after every surgery and it's pretty difficult to tell my knee has been opened completely 4 times and partially a 5th plus 3 arthoscopically. I am assuming within 12-15 weeks after the next one I'll be fine, as well. I have some problems with a sunk in spot that I believe was caused more by the 30 rounds of radiation damage than the surgery or maybe it was just the combination.

      Hi. Ofg

Thanks for your reassurance, once again, although the nurse had been, she had said she doesn't see a lot of knees and couldn't really say anything about it!

now I can relax and tell myself it's ok and it wasn't the cleaner that stitched me up - lol.

      Thanks

      Hi sue,

I had a similar situation with my operation scar which in parts looked as though it was overlapping and I was a little concerned. Nurse didn't seem too worried and said that she thought it would settle down.  Since then I have used Bio Oil regularly and after five weeks scar has healed nice and flat and knitted together much better than I ever thought it would.

      Kind regards,

      Dorothy
