Scar Management

Hello! As it is now 5 days and 11 hours until my six-week appointment where my big bandage comes off and I say good bye to the heel shoe hopefully (good as it's been), I have been wondering how to manage the scar. It has been shedding its scab in the last few days, leaving a slight indentation, as I can tell from my inspections through the open toe of the bandage! I have a tendency to have keloid scars, I've been told, i.e. my scars always become wide no matter how neat they look at first. My stitches dissolved/disintegrated before my two-week appointment and the scars looked fine. I just want to make sure they stay that way if possible. Does anyone have any ideas, please?

I'm not sure what you really had done.  I had the big toe joint fixed and bunion.  The doctor put in a metal small plate and four screws.  I go in this coming Monday and should have the foot boot off and  be able to wear a shoe.  It has been two months that I have had to wear a foot boot.  The first two weeks I had a long boot and then had this one that reaches by calf.  I can take it off at night but during the day I have to wear....making sure I don't rock it so I put weight on the toe.  I had some bone removed.  It has been a long 2 months but it's been ok....

I hope this helps.  I have had two knee replacements and this has been more of a bother but sure it will be worth it.  Now I am 74...Take care

Thanks. I didn't have the pleasure of a metal plate! Two screws and a staple were enough for me - I had the scarf and akin osteotomies - though I have to say that when I try to lift my big toe (bend it backwards) with my foot flat on the floor, it FEELS as if there is a metal plate along the top of my toe. I know that there isn't one though and that sensation is lessening greatly, I am glad to say! All the best.

Yes I agree, Bio oil, never used it before and It does say do not use on open wounds but I have been putting it AROUND the scar for now, and as soon as the scab comes off I will put it all over.. I am only 3 weeks post op. A Certain well known large chemist (not sure if I am allowed to say the name) is doing it 3 for 2 at the moment, (well it was last week) so I got 3 bottles.. Rubbing it on my very dry sun damaged skin as well...😄
