Hi all my fellow hippies,

hope you are all doing well , I am doing great, ( or at least I was) but yesterday I had a pain in my scar , not nerve pain ( cos Iv'e had that and know how it feels) ithis was more like in the joint itself, after walking for a while it becomes very stiff and achey, also my other hip was hurting too,( the one i had done 11months ago) go figure...just when you think it's safe to go back in the water  yada yada yada... but apart from this I'm very mobile and get out most days, but no matter how much exercise i do be it walking or static bike, i can't seem to shed the 28lbs I have put on since this all started 2 years ago, anyone got any advice please,

love to all,

Lynne xx

PS. also has anyone got a clue when we lose the duck waddle and walk normal again, just to remind new hippies, I'm 7 weeks post opp. on 2nd THR and 11 months on the 1st

I'm no help here as still duck waddling and struggling with weight at 11_weeks. I tried to follow slimming world rules this week an got on scales to find 2 pound on. Someone on here says the waddle will go without even noticing. We just have to keep on keeping on!!! I too have lots of unusual pains and sore today after doing a good bit of walking at weekend.

Same here, pain form the scare , like a stabbing pain last for a few seconds then goes. i had it for about 3 days till it went on its own accord. i had my leg length checked yesterday, thats ok. Still getting bum ache, general muscel aches and slight pain in my knee. the docs said it was becasue i was using crutches for 3 years and its my muscles working, had a hot bath last night and a good soak, much better this morning. i'm 8 weeks since opp do you ache and limp when you get out of bed or out of a chair after sitting, thats one problem i'm having

The area under my scar at nearly 5 months is still sore. I found that the stress on having to rely more on my other leg and hip  for several weeks which I had replaced many years ago has made the muscles around that hip struggle and I get quite a few tweaks in it now. I'm hoping it will gradually ease off!

thanks for all your relies, I would love to know if there is anyone on here that's had a thr and is now competely back to normal IE. walking wearing heels, generally as it used to be long before hip problems

HI, I'm 4 months out from anterior THR and I'm walking fine and wearing heels, no one would ever know by looking at me that I had ever had a hip replacement. My only issue is my scar is tender, my scar area is quite dented in and my outer hip still feels bruised internally. Not bad for only 4 months.

Great news especially about wearing heels. I tend to look at people walking now and think they have had a hip op or need one. Want to be like you soon!!

    Hi Lynne09047

My physio has got me doing this exercise for my waddle she says to try and do every hour.

You stand side on with the unoperatic leg  to your kitchen work top, hold on lightly  as a stabiliser , walk forward on your bad leg first and walk a few steps heel toe , heel toe, then go back and do the same with the other foot and this this about ten times. Shoulders straight and tummy pulled in. this has been really helping me as I have had quite a bad waddle. hope this helps you

This is a good tip for a waddle too - got from an Alexander technique teacher. On a sunny day with the sun behind you watch your shadow  look at your head and try walking so that the head does not go side to side which it does in a waddle.
