Probably a question best answered by your doctor - but I am 8 weeks out and have similar pain after exertion, especially around the scar area.  My physical therapist says it is soft tissue pain and that stretching and scar massage will help.  I had anterior so the muscles were really pulled out of place in order to get to the joint, and with posterior they actually have to cut some of the muscle, so with either surgery there is a lot of recovery for the muscles, and with both they have to cut through the joint capsule which is made of ligaments. And ligaments take the longest to heal of any body part (they get the least amount of blood supply so healing takes longer).  There will still be some soreness as the joint capsule heals from having to be cut and pulled away during surgery.

Still, probably not a bad idea to check in with your dr. or physical therapist if you have concerns.

Hi Pam:  I had pain and numbness in my thigh for six months after my surgery last September (anterior approach).  It has gradually gotten better.  Also my incision always felt like a sunburn.  Now it only bothers me if my pants are too tight!  So give it a bit more time, I'm sure, as I've discovered, it gets better every day!  Take care.  Janet

Hi, I had both hips done Sept Dec 2017. My scare areas are numb & tender to touch still with some swelling. Hope you heal soon.

    Hello Pam

The surgery is very invasive and the scar tissue will take time to heal and probably different for different people due to how extensive the surgery was. I have a long scar after a revisit and this is only now feeling okay and thats almost 16 months after the revisit.  I also have nerve and tendon damage.  The best thing has been exercising in a heated pool and having a spa.  The spa is the best thing for massaging the scar tissue and nerve pain area.

    All the best.
