I cannot see through my new lens but can see the dirty lens from the inside. Is this unusual?

This sounds like an unusual symptom and I'd recommend you talk to your eye doctor. Let us know what s/he says!

on my post SCAR TISSUE the doctor at the eye hospital said I have to wait till it settles down and then have it done.

Beryl I am not sure if you understand the whole cataract stuff so I will explain to aid your understanding.

Imagine your natural eye lens, when you were born was inside a clear thin plastic bag. This bag is called capsule.

During cataract operation they make a 2mm cut in this bag/capsules and suck out your natural lens.

Then they push in a rolled artificial lens called IOL through the cut into the bag/capsule and let it unfold. This artificial lens/IOL then acts as your lens.

This artificial lens can NEVER get cataract, BUT the bag/capsule that is holding the artificial lens can get growth of cells and make everything cloudy dirty. So even though the artificial lens is clear it appears as if it is not, as you are seeing the cloudy bag. Maybe that is what you are seeing.

To fix this, surgeons use a laser and cut a circular opening in the bag (not the lens). This allows you to see clear again without any obstruction.

To make this hole in the bag the surgeon has to wait around 6 weeks after cataract surgery. As before that the artificial lens has not settled properly and cutting hole in the bag is not adviced as you need that bag to hold the lens in place, even if part of the bag will get cut out the edges of the bag will hold the artificial lens in place.

I don't know if this is what is going on with you or something else.

I just thought I explain it to you.

Thank you so much, that seems to me what my problem is

I think it is much better than having the lens lasered

Would there be any problems likely?

Beryl a surgeon would never laser the lens/IOL. As Worried explain it is the capsular bag holding the lens that has cell growth on it and that is what is being addressed by laser.

If there is an issue with the lens, an exchange can be done - although it is a more involved complicated surgery. It does sound like the capsular bag is at issue in your case not the lens. I am sure your surgeon will explain this in more detail if you ask.

Hi I saw consultant on Fri and was not good news. The scar tissue was very bad they had not seen anything like it. I have agreed to an operation to try and clear it.

I don't understand, where is this scar tissue? Is it from the 2mm or so cut they made to insert the lens?

They didn't go into details. I got the top man in this field so I know it is bad. He just exclaimed how extraordinary it was and that it might need a gas bulb! not looking forward to that.

should have put gas bubble. I will ask where scar tissue came from on my pre op.
