scared 16yr old girl!

I am a 16 year old girl just finished my last year in secondary school. When i first got PNS i kept it to myself for weeks because i was so embarased then the pain got to severe i used to cry all night couldnt stay still, stand up or walk. I finally told my mum and we rung the doctor who said it would be quicker to ring an ambulance. I was horrified when two male paramedics walked in. They had to carry me to the ambulance and i had to try and 'sit' in A&E for 3hours i just cryed and cryed. It was worse when i was finally seen because all the doctors were male but women nurses were in the room. Id never been in hospital before and when the doctor said i needed an operation to drain the absess i was devastated i just cried. I had my op then came out of hospital 3days after, but 3months of getting the wound packed every other day followed. Four months later (a few days ago) ive been back to the hospital for a check up where i thought id get signed off but now ive been told its not healing and i have to have another operation the excision one. Ive read a few comments about this operation and heard its way more painful than the drainage and im really scared and would be grateful if someone who has been through the operation would get back to me and help me out!!!! thnx xx

Hi don't worry because they put you to sleep so you won't feel a thing, the op goes on for between 1-2 hours. when you wake up you will feel a bit sore but they will give you painkillers. I think having the dressing changed the day after is the worst and most painful bit. I will be going for my 4th op on tuesday as my abcess has never healed properly, they think i have a fistula but they can never find it. I hope your op goes ok and you heal up well i know of a few freinds that have had ops and never had a reacurrence i think it just depends on your body and how deep the abcess is . good luck smile

don't worry i have had that done. it is a different procedure than wht you had first time round. they will provide with you all the pain relief that you need. you shoud talk to your surgeons about this. in alot of cases before they bring your round from the general then will inject a local anistetic around the wound which last for upto a few days. if your worried about pain ask your surgeon if this would be an option to consider. as for being embarressed about it don't be, they deal with this all the time. you may find it helps to tell the person treating you this as they will put you at ease about this xx

Hello, i had my op nearly 2 weeks ago now and the worst part was 2 days afterwards when the anesthetic stoped working. while in hospitol i was told to take paracitamol as pain relief, make sure you get pain killers on prescription as nothing over the counter will be strong enough. You will be uncomfortable but its a peice of cake with the correct pain killers. the worst part of it all is day time TV !!

I have had the full Y plasti removal by a plastic surgoen and 5 general cyct and drianage ops so far and have always found them to be alot better than I thought they were going to be, your imagination can make the worst enemy to fight in these things.

My biggest op was the one I found I was most comfortable after and I hade about 50 stiches on the outside and still was not in pain. Just take the time to stay off your feet and give the body a chance to heal

Please do not worry about having multiple ops its more common than you think. Stay possitive and believe me you will imagine it to be much worse than it is.

You can get very depressed when the ops dont work I know but Please stay possitive and everyone feels scared and down about these things and its great to have a forum where you can talk but remeber most of us on this have had bad experiences thats why we come on to share and support each other. STAY POSITIVE

    Dear friend,

I am currently at home resting after my second op last week, I thought I would have a look at this site and I was sad to see that you.....being a girl too have the condition. I am not hairy at all, I am very clean and probably like you, wondered why I got this. I may be because of the work I do ....who knows.

Anyway, dont be affraid, your health is so important and if you do not have the surgery you could get very sick. My first op was to drain the infection a year a ago and the infection came back out of the blue last weekend and I was in hospital on the tuesday for surgery to remove the sinuses. I hope this works and the infection doesn't return. Post op isn't that bad I have had daily dressing changes where they pack the wound and have strong pain killers. Make sure you are not in pain....if you are your body will use all its energy to fight pain and not heal. Eat well, lots of fruit and veg. Most of all remember the pain afterwards is nothing compared with the pain of the abcess before the op.

Take care and be strong.....oh and dont be embarrassed!!!!

hi,im 21...having the same problem...i had an op in march and it still hasn't healed...im due to go in today as it's recurred again and am so scared...i am so disheartened to find it's back again, after months off work..and now im doing a course and am stressed that i'll fail due to how long healing takes and the stress involved.

i know it's incredibly embarassing, being a girl myself, it was the worst thing ever, but the amount of pain you're in outweighs the embarassment.

i really hope you get on successfully, all the best.

My boyfriend had this done in July. I have to say, from second hand experience, ask for painkillers if you are in pain. That is one thing my boyfriend was scared and embarrased to do. But seriously, even if you are on some painkillers, and you are still in pain, tell them. That is my advice to you. I hope it all goes well for you.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear what you're going through, but you'll be okay. It's amazing how strong we are when we need to be. Talk to a trusted friend/relative or school councilor as having someone \"one your side\" really helps you feel supported. It has nothing

I just had my sinus excised last thursday (5 days ago). I had it done under local as I didn't want to spend the extra time in the hospital required with a general anesthetic. The worst part was the needles to put the freezing in, if they had to do an incision to drain it the first time, that was more pain than having this procedure done for sure. Although you will be quite tender for a few days.

I was actually joking and chatting with the Nurses and my Surgeon throughout the whole procedure, and she told me step by step what she was doing. After making the excision, she cleaned it out and then \"cautered\" the whole thing which is supposed to help with healing and to prevent re-infection. She then stitched me up, I think the two most important things for me now, at five days post-op are 1.) Move very carefully, don't bend over etc as it may pull the stitches out, and 2.) I'm taking 3 or 4 warm baths (no salts or anything) everyday. In the tub I VERY gently swish water around the wound.

I do have a very small amount of discharge, just spots really, and it's usually after the baths that this happens. Other than that I'm thinking that it's going to

Have been taking a non-opioid pain killer with ibuprofen, will probably just take ibuprofen and aspirin now for a few days. The pain was the worst on about day 3 for me, but was tolerable and it's already feeling much better.

Don't be worried about getting it fixed, or scared, or embarrassed ; \"joking through the hole (get it...hole?) thing will do lots for your spirits, and it's known that a positive outlook promotes better and faster healing from any surgery or injury.

Oh yeah, use a bunch of pillows or folded blankets to make a \"donut\" to sit on, making sure there's no pressure at the back either. This will make sitting much more tolerable. You basically want to keep the whole tender area off the seat (it's kinda like sitting on the loo, looks funny but sure helps!)

Sending you peaceful thoughts, and knowing that you'll have a good recovery!

    In Peace.
