Are you keeping your ovaries? At your age you will need too, or go on hrt.
Anything you want to ask, feel free!

It's worrying, but well worth it, I'm at home 4 weeks post op now. I had to get a hysto due to large fibroids, before the Op i had lower back pain, weirdly constant blocked nose, sore legs, heavy periods, very tired ,i could go on and on.
Even though its early days, i am feeling so much better, all the above completely gone!
Please don't try to do too much when you get home, because you've been feeling awful for ages, you think your invincible because you feel so well, but your not, you will set yourself back, just ignore the dust! it's only a blip in time.
Good luck

I am 43 and due to have total hysterectomy on 30th April also scared now its finally booked to go ahead.
I have large fibroids ,heavy periods, pain in lower back and pretty much constatnt pelvic pain .
I am quite fit and sadly can no longer exercise or run I was hoping to run the great north run in September my consultant said he thinks this is possible and I could be up and running gently in about eight weeks .
If anyone has any advice post op I would welcome it.
Cheers B

You didn't say whether you are having an abdominal or vaginal hysterectomy. I am assuming that if you fibroids are large enough to cause this operation you are probably having an abdominal one.
I had an abd one years ago but had 2 previous c sections so I thought it would be a piece of cake because I did so well with the births of my 2 girls.
For the first 3 weeks after my hyst I thought what in the world have I done. My stupid cat tried to jump on the bed but actually landed on my stomach about 10 days in.
At the end of the 3rd week I felt fabulous. Fabulous! Completely worth it.
I had a total hyst with removal of everything including my cervix.
