Hi, I'm a 60 year old man who noticed one morning on April 24th 2021 my left leg is considerably thinner then my right leg and the ankle was a little sore. I went to my orthopedic surgeon who
ran mris of my spine and brain . everything good just some mild stenosis in lumbar.
He noticed atrophy in my left leg and sent me to a neurologist who looked at me and did a clinical evaluation and said im good. (SMH)..
Now he said he would do a Lower EMG on Mayv4th on my legs . The results were not good . it showed a small muscle in the ankle area and the Fib not responding..also no f waves present and the summation was chronic denervation of the bilateral L4 and L5.. When I returned to go over the emg with my neuro I asked him is this ALS he said no. I said why is my leg like this and he said nerve damage or pinched nerve. idkn . I also complained that my hands and arms ache . So he said he would do a EMG of the upper to ease my mind. That test came back clean. I told him I was also experiencing a horse throat for a few weeks. He said can you swallow liquids and I said yes. He said you are fine. I was able to walk on toes and heels. The next morning I woke up and noticed my right Gluteus was shrunken. it was flat on one side ..I started to freak out again. my shoulders tremble and my coordination seems off when I reach fir things. Extremely Stressed out by now 24/7..
Now I get an appt with a neurologist at the Stoneybrook als center in long island. He just looks at me dies a brief clinical and looks over the previous EMG and says No ALS. I don't understand. I expected a little more of an evaluation. He didn't bother to keep my paperwork or reschedule another appt.
I decided to go back yesterday to the original Otho surgeon who ran all my MRIs and I showed him the emg from the neuro and he said sorry but I don't see anything on your Mris that would correlate to your EMG. Mild stenosis normally pinched nerve. So now I am one big wreck of nerves and stress. I take Valium just to be able to get my body to rest to go to sleep. im very
frightened i have ALS....
sorry for the long text.
