Scared it's Something Worse

Hi All,

Really hoping someone can ease my mind here. I have officially hit the one year mark with mono and I feel like I am not getting any better๐Ÿ˜” I am terrified it is something worse. When I was first diagnosed with mono (via monospot test) through normal bloodwork, my doctor found that my liver and slpeen were both inflamed. I have not had an issue with either since then so I am hoping that is a good sign? I have never had my EBV levels checked so of course I am now terrified of it being something like lymphoma or leukemia ๐Ÿ˜” Here is a list of my current symptoms:

head pressure (only on left side and behind my ear)

left eye pain

visual snow/floaters/flashes

chest pain (possibly esophageal)

burning feeling in legs

weird off balance feeling

tingling and muscle twitching

My energy levels have somehow been fine! No fevers, currently no weakness in legs but that seems to come and go. I'd really appreciate knowing your thoughts. I assume if it was something worse my liver and spleen would likely have worsened?

    hey,

have you had any medical trouble prior to the mono? everything but the chest pain & leg burning sensation seems like it could be mono symptoms. its worth getting checked out, but i wouldnt assume the worst

Im about 9-12 months in. I can do more but symptoms still prevail like head pressure the constant feeling like i have a cold and overall fatigue. Some people have it for well over a year according to accounts on this forum.

The head pressure is so frustrating. Mine is usually only on the left side temple. I swear it's like I can feel where the virus has settled itself in!

i'm two months in and i freaked out many times that it had to be something worse with all my symptoms, but this virus can easily make anyone paranoid. i have to remind myself that many times. i had bloodwork done to make sure everything is fine, i would recommend that.

I am usually good to remind myself that too but sometimes it just gets to me. May I ask what kind of bloodwork you had done? I've had bloodwork multiple times recently and all has come back fine. I am thinking of asking for EBV Serology now though.

    Hi Brittney,

I totally get thinking that it's something worse because I let my mind wander too. But if you don't have any issues with lymph nodes I doubt it would be lymphoma. I think the problem with this virus is that it lingers and I think for some people it takes a really long time for it to be totally inactive again. Some months I have felt better and then sure enough a week before my period I am having symptoms again.

I have mentioned this before in this forum but I had full-blown mono for about a month in college and now 16 years later I was told I have active EBV. Very different symptoms this time around. It seems like this virus is one that can randomly cause problems for people, my fear is that I will always have some lingering symptoms.

I do had chest pain for a few weeks a couple months ago. I had a bunch of heart tests done and all was well there. I have seen other people mention chest pain as well on here.
