Scared of going to the dentist. Any tips?

I’ve read stories where people go to the dentist and somehow they get vertigo afterwards. So now I’m terrified to go to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned and stuff.

I’ve had vertigo 3 times (in 2016 and 2017) but it wasn’t caused by the dentist since I haven’t been to the dentist since like 2015.

I’m just worried that getting my teeth cleaned will somehow cause me to have vertigo.

Like I’m very cautious about how my head tilts and turns so I don’t want to be laying down so flat on the dentist chair.

How do I explain my worries to the dentist? Will they just think I’m nuts and a worrier?

I stayed away from the dentist for a long time for the same reasons. However, before I started having chronic problems with vertigo, I called the offixe and asked if I could be accommodated. I told the dentist and hygienist how to and how not to move the chair, etc and they worked around it. The worst part for me was the polishing. For some reason, the vibration that caused, in the back of my mouth, did cause some discomfort but only while the instrument was im that area.

Do you remember if you were laying completely horizontal in the dentist chair? Or were you reclined back just alittle bit?

In some cases, people do recognize vertigo and have some compassion.  Dental offices seem to be more accommodating than medical,  possibly because they don’t have a callous attitude, from dealing  with sick people all the time.

I called before I made an appointment and made sure therenwouldn’t be an issue asked When I got there, I just told anybody who  came in to work on me, that before moving the chair, I had to be told and thar it could only be moved as much as I could tolerate. I wasn’t completely horizontal because I can’t tolerate being in that position. It’s not the norm, so it’s a good idea to remind them during the appointment to make sure they don’t forget and recline the chair any further.  Obviously, you’re not the only person with this problem to visit the dentist.
