Hi All,

My colonoscopy is scheduled for next Monday and I'm soooo nervous and anxious..I'm terrifed that the doctor will perforate my bowel after the colonoscopy..Does anyone have any experience of the colonoscopy? How was the prep..did it hurt? How did you feel afterwards? When did you feel normal again?

Top it off I had a fibroid operation 2 months ago and I haven't come on yet..which is freaking me out

Please help

I had a colonoscopy last year, not sure what you mean by the prep? I had something like 2 litres(?) of laxative to drink the day before. At first, I didn't think it was working, but after about an hour it definitely was. It didn't hurt but you really need to be at home and have your own loo. For the colonoscopy I was given a sedative, a bowel relaxant, and a pain killer. The doctor took a biopsy and that hurt, but other than that the drugs did their job.

They say you stay in for a couple of hours after because of the sedative, but they let me go earlier than that. And you probably know they want someone with you overnight, and you can't drive for a short time. Physically, I felt ok as far as I can recall, with no after effects.

Not the most pleasant experience I've ever had, but not the worst! Good luck, and don't worry.

    Hi all,

How long does the laxative take to work..? Does it go on for ages?

Will I be able to sleep in the night?

I've been on a low residule diet out of choice since yesterday..I thought less go in less comes out..do you think that will make a difference..?

My letter says I should be on a low residule diet from tomorrow..

I'm incredibly nervous..I've been on the internet and too be honest it's scared the living day of me..

    Any help is much appreciated.

:D I would not worry yourself too much. I had the camera and had sedation. you are aware but really relaxed not pleasant but neccessary.I am really glad I had it done, it ruled out cancer which is what my G.P had told me I had. My doc told me I had Bowel Cancer from a bloodtest!!!!!

Apparently there is a chemical that sometimes when you have Cancer shows as a marker in your blood. I went home well lets say feeling very worried. Ive had camera up and down. C.T scan and a ultrasound scan. The biopsy from my stomach revealed I simply have Helibacter Pylori. Most people have this bug just a few have some very bad symptoms from the bug. Doc has given me prescription two lots of antibiotics and omperazole to reduce the acid. SOOO GLAD NOT CANCER. Sounds like am not going to feel well from the medication but hopefully it will cure my symptoms. And so much better a diagnosis than my G.P gave me the fool.

    Dear Tezi,

Nothing to worry don’t be panic

One of my friends had a colonoscopy in the last month. He didn’t feel any pain or nervous before colonoscopy. The duration was 45 min’s they cleaned with around 60 liters of water they inserted pipe in the body from back passage. Really after completing the colonoscopy the doctor suggested to him to take rest of 48hours after that we spent lot of time and enjoyed now he is very comfortable and he joined in his company.

Hello Juanita..... I think you aren't aware of the differences between colonoscopy and colonic irrigation. Colonoscopy is the process of examine the internal surface of the colon to identify the abnormal growths called polyps. If these polyps cause cancer these can be removed. As per my knowledge we won't get any pain during this process and the expert will take care of it.

Colonic irrigation is the process of injecting purified water in to our rectum to flush out the harmful toxins and feces. In this process water is required to flush the wastes. But in colonoscopy water is not required.

I had a colonoscopy about a month ago. I had to take laxatives to clear the bowel and the procedure wasn't at all painful. The gastroenterologist printed out a copy of his findings for me and there were nurses in attendance. You will be given sedation and won't anything. I am glad I had it done as I have now got medication to help with my symptoms.

dont worry about your colonoscopy I have had three now all done differently ,one with general anaesthetic .one with sedation. And one done with ought anything .all three were painless, I would recommend the latter as I could see on the moniter inside my colon and I could see my tumor, I have since had surgery( successful ) and am back to normal hope this helps you

    Dear Tezi,

I had a colonoscopy a few months ago and it was o.k. You will be given a light sedation and thats it,     you won't feel anything going in or coming out. After a couple of hours you're up and about and are given something to eat. Please try not to worry. I worried about my bum being exposed but these doctors see so many in their work it doesn't bother them.
