Scared & Overwelmed!

I have been "sick" for 25+ years. Last 3 years have been very tough! I worry about my kids now!! Is there any studies that show if M.E. is hereditary? My mom has had it for 40 years! I don't want my kids to suffer any more than they already have not having a mom that can do everything. I feel like they have been cheated already!!

Unfortunately it is a possibility that your kids or their kids could get CFS/ME since you and your mother have this. This, from what I understand, genetics do play a big role in this and any autoimmune disease as to why you or someone else has this. sad

It's possible you and your mum have something different although it's possible it is CFS.

Sadly i think what haley38445  says my be true, one of my sons has now got M.E. and he is near enough the same age as  i was when i was 1st diagnosed by 2 years difference, i was 42 he is 40.

But if i had know back then what i know now and thats sugar attacks our immune system. Felt some improvement since cutting out sugar, white flour, white rice and pasta and bread.  Also candida can mimick ME   which i had as well. Im wondering does my son have this?  Look it up on google and also what happens when you cut out sugar. Immediate benefits, more energy etc.Ive also greatly benefited by cutting out gluten too.

Hi Bondo. I completely understand how you feel. I was diagnosed with CFS 25 years ago, but in spite of being sick, I had one child. She is now 22 years old and has been experiencing some of the same symptoms as me...but not nearly as severe..actually they are very mild. She has completed college and wants to go to Medical school but she takes lots of naps during the day and requires lots of down time.

Looking back...my mom napped about 3 times a day when I was a kid, but I didn't think much about it. I just assumed that she had "low" energy. No one talked about CFS in those days.

It always is in the back of my head because I DO NOT want my own daughter to be cheated and unable to accomplish the things she want to accomplish. Unfortunately, I think they still do not know what causes CFS/ME, so it is hard to say whether it is genetic of not. I just hope our kids stay healthy!

Have any of your kids started to have symptoms and why do you say that you are worse now?  Where you sick when you had your children? KPD

I have started having stroke like symptoms...such as confusion, headaches, unable to move one side of my body, loss of taste. I have these things normally, but these attacks are serve and only last a few days. I don't complete recover for about a month afterwards. I now have permant weakness on my left side and Iam unable to hardly walk by the end of the day. 3 years ago I was walking 3 miles every Saturday and doing yoga a few times a week. My pain has tripled in this time also.

Oh no, Bondo! That sounds horrible, especially since you were doing so well. I'm so sorry :-(

Have you been to a doctor or ER to have this checked. Are you actually having mini-strokes or are these all symptoms of the CFS/ME? You mentioned that your mom was sick, too. Did she experience these symptoms, as well?

How are you kids? I know you mentioned being worried about them having this illness. KPD

Yes I have been to the ER and specialist. My mom unfortunately has experienced these same things as well. I am starting to see a few things that concern me with my son age 23. Thank you for the concern!!!
