If you trust your doctor everything will be fine.

Hi Danny,
Its over and done with very quickly and if you come back after its done and honestly tell me it was worse than you were expecting id be very surprised.
Getting it out of the way and hopefully being able to go on to treating whatever is causing your symptoms will be a great relief
Good luck
Let us know how it goes

You wouldn't be human if you didn't have butterflies.
If I were you I'd sit quietly and breathe slowly and deeply letting your abdomen rise then breathe out gently and slowly through your mouth. Repeat as often as you can to give your muscles a chance to learn to relax on demand. Giving your shoulders a shake to relieve tension is also good. Again do it frequently. It does a lot for one's confidence to be able to feel in control of your body and practice, while not making perfect, will increase the chance of getting the response you are aiming for.
You will have your throat sprayed to relax the local muscles which allows the" camera" to go down and, as I've said so often on here, it felt to me like swallowing a largish piece of dry bread.
I opted for no sedation so cannot comment on that part of the procedure. Not bravery, just preferring to know what's happening.
Good luck!

Danny let me tell you, I understand your anxiety aka white coat syndrome! But be sedated, ask for Propofol!l. It will be the best sleep you have ever had... When you wake up you will not be groggy but feel so refreshed. I have had endoscopy and colonoscopy several times and you are in and out and wide awake in total 20 min. There is NOTHING to it.. The doctor will take biopseys, this is normal, and it can take up to 2 weeks for results! With anxiety do not have your throat sprayed and be awake! Many people who are awake have had to reschedule to be put asleep... Once and done! nothing to it! relax.

Hi Nancy
where did you have your procedures as not many NHS hospitals use Propofol?

I went to my gastro doctor and told him what I wanted..He said it was fine and that's what they would use...I have had surgery for carpal tunnel surgery and requested that as well. It is the best! I was in and out, wide awake and felt like I had slept 12 hours. You feel so refreshed and ready to go! The best sleep ever. Most places you go you have to request it. There are no side effects. I recommend it!

No, I live in the United States. I am sure they have it there as well! You have to request it. They will let u know if its available.. There is nothing to it. I have white coat syndrome where I get myself sick just walking into a doctors office..Almost panicked, I take the dog to the vet and make myself sick..so if I can say there is nothing to it, then believe me it's a piece of cake. I recommend it and there is nothing to be afraid of..The doctors always take biopsies so don't freak about that either. It can take up to two weeks for results. Most people get results of inflammation and hiatal hernia. Anxiety makes it worse. They tell you to expect to be there an hour but the sleep time and test are a total of 20 min. Its mostly put on a gown, they take blood pressure, doctor stops for a second. they put an IV in, roll u into the procedure room, they put the nasal oxygen in your nose, (my doctor said we are going to the beach what drink u want, he lists flavors, I picked pina colada) the smell taste just like a pina colada and u are awake. they give u a snack, u get dressed and u feel wonderful!!! Total experience..

Thank you. I know there are only a few NHS hospitals here in UK that will do it. I'm going privately for that reason.

danny i had it done on Thursday and honestly it was ok . i have bad anxiety and you honestly dont know whats going on due to sedation . im in the uk and had sedation, i wasnt aware of anything. only thing ive had is a sore throat and my neck muscles have been sore, but they are better today. i had a colonoscopy at the same time and that was way worse than the endoscopy.
