Have you been tested for acid reflux? That makes me have bad attacks at night. Took me a while to get it figured out and if still suffer from panic disorder but the ones from sleep are caused by reflux.

Alex. You are suffering from anxiety. Don't worry, it wont do you any harm (despite what your anxious thoughts tell you!). it is harmless but scary. Your defense systems have kicked in (the fight or flight response) and a lot of adrenaline and cortisol are being released by your adrenal glands (on top of your kidneys). This is a natural defense mechanism that your body is reacting to. There is nothing 'wrong' with you. It is not a mental illness. You are not going mad and you will not die. It will pass and you will be ok. You have been checked out medically and there is nothing wrong. However, when the adrenal hormones hit your system you will get a lot of weird sensations in your body. These might include sweating, shaky legs, headaches, fluttering heartbeat, stomach churning, shortness of breath, tight muscles and chest pain. The chest pain is not to do with your heart. It is your chest muscles tightening up (which causes pain). Also you will not stop beathing because breathing is controlled by your automatic nervous system, not by you. Try stopping . You cant. All of these symptoms are caused by adrenaline in your system. The panicky thoughts are caused by your brain desperately searching for what is wrong. As there is nothing wrong it searches for anything it can find and will suggest many things (heart attack, death etc) to resolve the situation.

The more you worry about it, think about i,t or try to avoid it, the longer it will stay because you are feeding the anxiety.

The best thing to do (and I'm not saying this is easy) is to accept it. Dont try to get rid of it. Accept it for the time being. Then get on with doing something practical or absorbing and ignore it as best you can. If you can manage it, even go towards it. If something seems scary, then do it, even if your hands are shaky, because NOTHING WILL HAPPEN TO YOU and this will then demonstrate to your brain and nervous system that there is no threat and you are perfectly fine. You will find that the anxiety will then slowly subside (it takes a bit of time for the adrenaline to leave your system).

If you have become scared of sleeping, then go to bed with the intention of resting rather than sleeping. Read a book, listen to the radio (maybe something funny), watch the tv and just let your body rest, dont worry about sleeping and you may probably fall asleep. Good luck. You will be fine.

I use to have a hard time breathing morning and nights. I can feel my heart pounding through my chest and I was scared to sleep also. And this happened a lot. So I went to the doctor and said I had asthma.  They gave me an inhaler. So the next day I was having problems and I tried the inhaler and I heard the inhaler is suppose to help you right away. Well it didnt help me. So im thinking its not asthma.  I also suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. But I havent had one in a while. Im thinking its my anxiety that and my panic that are messing with my breathing but also since june my nose is always stuffed! Always! So that could be why im short of breath. So me being short of breath I start to panic.

I watched this show on Netflix called fat, sick and nearly dead. Very interesting.  He helped fat people lose weight by juiceing. I started juiceing not to lose weight but to get all the vitamins and nutrients. One of my best friends had really bad allergies and he started juicing once a day to get the good stuffs and now I swear his allergies are gone! So I figured if it could help with that maybe it will help with my panicking and anxiety.  And guess what? I swear I had one itsy bitsy panic attack since I started almost 3 weeks ago. And the reason I had a panic attack is because I been so busy I didnt juice for 2 days and on that 3rd day in the morning I had that tiny attack. So I started juicing again. Its helped a lot. Thats what I think. Maybe its a mental thing. Whatever it is its working for me. I put CELERY because celery helps with the nervous system. I use kale, spinach,  carrots, apples, strawberries,  orange, banana,  and other fruits.
