Scared to start venlafaxine

Hi I've been prescribed venlafaxine by a pyschartrist and I'm dreading taking my first dose (37.5mg ) doc told me to take one at night and one morning. I'm on sertraline which I've been on for 5 months and has done nothing for my anxiety. I've had depersonalisation for 12 years and I think it's because of my norepinephrine is low and I know venlafaxine is a norepinephrine uptaker and sertraline is only a serotonin reuptaker which is mainly for depression inwhich I'm not depressed just bad anxiety which makes my depersonalisation worse and turns into a vicious circle I can't get out. If my depersonalisation would go away i wouldn't be anxious I'm hoping venlafaxine will be my key to living life again! Anyway I'm babbling I'm just scared after taking my first dose I'm going to wake up feeling like a zombie and not know who I am. I always get like this trying new medication! Lol! I need to function during the week as I'm up at 6 am and need to take my little boy to school and my husband is out the house for work at 6 am till late. What's it like after your first dose?

Your GP has given you a medication you need to take it. He would have taken any medications you take into consideration before giving you this script. Allow upwards of five weeks to make sure they are working
You also mention your child to school in the morning, if you are bored during the day do you feel an activity may be a good idea to take your mind of a lonely home life when no-one is around, It does not need to be going back to work, there are other interests you could try. Your Library may have a list of organisations you could try

i am the same way when starting new meds and i have just started taking venlaflaxine 2 weeks ago. and like you, i feel some sort of relief when hearing from others who are also on the drug. the problem is that everyone is so different. my neighbor who i am very close with has been taking venlaflaxine for 13 years with no problems at all (unless she is late on taking her dose) and then theres people that start and get every awful side effect listed in the pamphlet! you just never know until you try. thats the thing with these damn meds! lol but i do agree 100% that the depersonalization is a side effect of the anxiety that makes it all so much worse. i HATE that feeling and i am eager for it to go away. best of luck to you and keep in touch !
