I just want my mind to slow down n be calm for once in my life.. please positive feedback on this medication would help.. thanks in advance

Hi Renee, I'm sorry to hear about your condition. Have you tried any other medication besides klonopin? Is the Dr a consultant psychiatrist or a GP? 5 mg/day of Zyprexa will definitely help you to manage the anxiety, but... this drug is mainly used as a potent antipsychotic in patients experiencing acute psychotic episodes (in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder). Although it belongs to a new generation of antipsychotics and is considered to be relatively safe, its profile is rather sedative than activating (so forget about doing anything constructive, especially within the first few weeks after starting the treatment) and it also causes significant weight gain (a friend of mine gained over 60 lbs in 2 months...). If you got the script from a psychiatrist, try Zyprexa and see how do you feel and whether you can accept the side effects. If you got it from a GP, I would recommend seeing a specialist first or asking for a second opinion, explaining that you are not delusional, that you do not experience hallucinations and that you want to live an active life. There are other drugs out there that could be worth exploring before trying Zyprexa (like SSRIs - especially paroxetine and sertraline). But please mind that this is an Internet forum and the decision should be taken ideally by someone who knows you personally and can accurately assess your condition. Anyway, I hope you get better soon!

I am on 15 mg of lexapro as well I should have put that in.. at low doses it doesn't work on certain chemicals in the brain like for schizophrenia n bipolar.. they give it to people that have ocd n stuff like that at low doses.. when u get up to higher doses like 20mgs n higher it works on dopamine receptors so I'm told.. this is my psych specialist prescribing it.. he's hoping it will calm me down n take me off the klonopin n then take me off this in a few months.. Nothing gets me calm I'm a freak of nature I'm a ball of nerves.. he did tell me to weigh myself before I started this drug bc of the side effects with weight..

Well, if you're also on Lexapro and it doesn't help than it's a different story. In this case you need to quit klonopin before it ruins your body and this is the priority for your doc. I would follow his advice and take Zyprexa, as it is very likely to help you. It is a safe medication, it will not harm you (especially not within a short period of time, like months or even 1-2 years). The main side effect will be weight gain (but in your case the benefit clearly outweights the risk).

Now, I wouldn't go into the details about how Zyprexa works - this is only going to increase your anxiety.

Don't be scared to try new Meds, for the most part all will have some side effects

especially antidepressants. Olanzapine is an antipsychotic med, more for people with Bi-polar issues but Dr.s use these Meds for Anxiety too. I suffer from Depression and Anxiety and take Seroquel for sleep even though it's used for

Bi-polar-schizophrenia, if I feel really bad during the day I take 1/4 of a Seroquel pill and it works pretty good. Good luck!

hey hon, i have severe anxiety on top of other diagnosis and was up to 50 MG Xanax a day. I now take 8.5 colonzepam and Zyprexa 2.5 and it does help. only side effect, it makes you so so so hungry so you really have to watch what you eat or you'll gain a lot of weight. I've suffered mentally since I was 12 and am currently 30 and this seems to be my only fix.
