Scars are painful to sleep

Posted , 9 users are following.

Sleep on sides. 1st hip on 3/17. 2nd hip 5/17. Massage across scars but still wake up at night with hot spots at scar area. Sleeping on back is not possible.

Is there an alternative treatment to accelerate the healing process?

Please & tu

The only suggestions I have is not being a smoker, being a very moderate drinker or a non drinker, being fit and not heavier than you should be, being young, having a positive outlook and having a really great surgeon.

The body mends at it's own speed but keeping ahead of the pain and eating a good diet all aids as quick a recovery as possible

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Ccariello

My scar tissue damage was painful.  You need the scar tissue when healing but then need massaging if needed later on.  Have you tried heat beads?  I required deep massaging from physiotherapist once a week for 6 weeks assisted with heat beads several times a day.

I hated sleeping on my back but with the thought of going backwards I made sure I did just that.  After 3 months I can now sleep on any side or stomach. Worth it!

All the best, you have had 2 major operations in a short time.

    Hi

Not sure why you can't sleep on your back? I know it's not the preferred option for any of us pre surgery but the best way post surgery. If you are sleeping on your wounds I'm not surprised you are having problems it must be do tender. Persevere if you can.

    Hope things improve for you

    Best wishes julie

    Hi

I've been sleeping on my back for 3 months now and will probably have to for another 2. I don't like it at all. But I do find that lying there I do drop off. I wake up several times in the night but still get enough sleep.Sleeping on my back encourages me to sleep with my mouth open so I get a dry mouth. I vary how I organise my pillows to sleep flatter or more sitting. But everyone is different. Much as I'd like to I definitely can't sleep on my side,

    Hope you find a solution

I use an essential oil to massage and sooth those muscles around scar tissue. The one I use is called Deep Blue from Doterra and I mix it in coconut oil, but Tiger Balm is also good and you could also find an over the counter ointment at the pharmacy that may help.
