SCARY!!!! Hair loss HELP!!

I have been losing a scary amount of help and it stopped for a while with Revita shampoo but started again in April and now feeling like I'm going bald but there's nothing like that in my family, hereditary. I went to yet another doctor, hormone specialist. Even tho I'm prob in peri at my age, he said my estrogen was actually normal like that of a 20 year old and my progesterone was normal tho been told before very low. I'm taking a progesterone only pill for a giant fibroid. He said that pill could be causing the hair loss. Wondering if anyone has had that experience? He also said I was anemic and my thyroid was off (I already take thyroid medicine). But I've been anemic and had low thyroid before and no hair loss. TERRIFIED. Just pulls out like taffy. PLEASE HELP ladies. Any ideas? Worrying now some other horrible thing is wrong me.

Sounds like hormone issues. Have you thought about seeing a naturopath who specializes in women's hormones? You probably wont get much help from mainstream medicine. I find that most are at a loss when medicines dont work.

Hi I saw a hormone specialist who does specialize in women's hormones and is more holistic. He was the one that said he thought it could be the artificial progesterone I'm taking tho my levels were in normal range he thought it could be blocking natural production. He also thought my thyroid might be off which I'm looking into even tho endocronologist says normal. And I am a bit anemic. But I've been anemic and hypothyroid before with no hair issues so thinking more likely progesterone related, ie. maybe high androgen pill I'm taking. He said based on my hormone tests which he took on a specific day of my cycle that estrogen was great and progesterone was normal but might be messed up by pill.

I don’t necessarily have solutions for you, but I want you to know you are not alone. I went to my GYN and requested to be put on the maximum amount of estrogen/progesterone that is safe. I am also taking iron supplements, vitamins, biotin, collagen, and saw palmetto, all of which are supposed to help. I use Rogaine (5% for men is actually fine, and you only really need it once per day). I wash my hair only once per week and I use Nizoral shampoo. This combination seems to have made a difference. Also if you dye your hair, you should switch to a natural dye like henna or Natural Instincts. Good luck!

Thanks Kate. I'm afraid to use Rogaine or Nizoral because I've heard once you start you can never stop or all your hair will fall out. I do use a shampoo with saw palmetto etc. I'm also taking iron and checking thyroid. Trying to switch birth control if possible. What did they tell you about Rogaine risk? Thanks!

My GYN recommended Rogaine. It is true that you have to keep taking it or the new hair you grow will fall out, but it won't cause the rest of your hair to fall out.
