Sciatic Pain

Posted , 11 users are following.

I can't stand this pain anymore. I was in bed for a month and it got better except for tingling in that leg. I could get up and get things done, but it came back after a week. I can't walk because the leg gives out.

I can't sit because of pain. I don't know what to do.

I really sympathise. Sciatic pain is agony, it leaves me breathless with pain. I have used a TENS machine to help and I have been to a physio, but I have not found the perfect cure yet.

Thanks for answering me. How long does it last before it goes away. Do you use pain

      medication?

I have tried Tramadol, co-codamol and others, none of them helped me at all. I suppose I just put up with the pain. My GP said it would last two weeks, WRONG. I have had sciatica a couple of times and it must have lasted several weeks. The TENS machine did help though.

treatments that helped me over the years are nsaids, muscles relaxants, ice packs and physical therapy and time. it is unrelenting until it finally eases off. its usually the sciatica nerve that is pressured by swelling or pressure .

if after a reasonable amount of time self treatment shows no improvement or it becomes worse, then its time to see a doctor for treatment.

in some cases sciatica can be cause by a herniated discs . i can honestly say in some cases it never gets better until the disc leaning on the nerve is repaired.

Hi, I hate to say this but I have had this problem since 2011 when I had my second hip replaced. I have seen many specialists and they still can't find the cause. Sacroilliac joint currently being investigated but not looking good. Lost my job and now rely on wheelchair when I can go out. I'm in constant pain, more so when standing, sitting.

I really hope you get to the cause of your pain before it gets any worse. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. My quality of life has changed totally. Good luck and let me know how you get on please.

Im so sorry you are in pain. I know what its like. I cant lay down when I have a flare up. But I find a hot water bottle is helpful to ease pain. naproxen pain relief also helps. and I also bought a Belpink seat/cushion which I use all the time. I wouldnt be without it. Apart from a couple of exercises which I could have found on internet , I have not yet received useful hell from professionals. Since the last big flare up in January both legs and ankles from knees down swell. I do think my problem stems from knee and hip replacement surgery. I wish you well.

Since my right hip replacement two years ago, I have had all sorts of problems, ranging from sciatica to foot drop. I'm still in therapy for the foot drop, and only in the last month the nerves have started firing again. This is good news, but there's still a long way to go.

I had better luck with the sciatic pain. My acupuncturist took away almost all of the pain. It took about two months of twice weekly sessions. Well worth it! The residual pain was from a disk extrusion at L5 S1. For that I got a series of spine injections over 8 months. I have not had any serious pain this year, and my last injection was in December 2018.

I'm not advocating any of these treatments, just sharing what worked for me.

    Best to you!

Check out exercises on youtube: Bob and Brad, the best physical therapists on the internet. They are fun people and come up with good therapy. You can put sciatica in the search box.

I did have two hip replacements. One in 2001 and another one 2003. So both hips had replacements.

I haven't been to an Orthopedist in years, I never had any problems. I have missed two ordered blood tests and if this keeps up I'll be missing both appointments with the doctors which i s not good. What over the counter drugs will help? Anyone know? I can't walk. I can't sit in a car. I am getting very depressed. Thanks for answering me.

I have sciatica and performis syndrome. Also a torn meniscus. my leg goes out and it is painful . Ifound that using ice on my lower back for 10 minutes off for 20 brings some relief and taking Alieve works wonders! I take it with food always because believe me when I tell you if you don't you will have a whole new set of problems. hope this helps you.

    I feel your pain!

I don't want to be discouraging but I've been dealing with sciatica for years. It would come and go but now it's constant. I had both hips replaced, the second one was done just over a year ago. My hips feel great now but the sciatic pain is debilitating. Some days are better than others. (if better means the pain didn't seize my legs in mid stride) I've been to a chiropractor and he said he could help me but it would cost me close to $4000. My insurance doesn't cover anywhere near that so I'm not sure what to do either.

I do hope you find relief!

    Best wishes!

I just wish I could get rid of this pain to be able to get to a doctor. How did posters here get to the doctor? I would be rolling in pain. What is a good over the counter relief that works? Please advise? I need something to ease the pain a little.

I have the same thing and found that ice packs on for 10 and off for 20 combined with Alieve takes the edge off. Make sure you take them with food

I've gotten a lot of good suggestions here and been doing a lot of research on over the counter medications. I can't tale Aleve . I need some kind aspirin. I need to go to a doctor. I need tests because a CT scan showed nothing wrong so I don't know what's causing this right now. I know the neurosurgeon just gave me Lyrica and did nothing else.

I can't have an MRI because of a pacemaker.
