Hi there, even if it does work it will only be temporary relief. Gabapentin is a drug to stop nereve pain resulting from damage being done to the Sciatic nereve along the spine. You should get an MRI Scan and discover the root of the pain, where it's being pinched and address that. It can be done by physiotherapy or Chiropractor or RPG and the last option is an operation as although often successful you will raely find a person who was 100% cured with no more events or pains or even worse off after the operation. Drugs are only temporary relief to help you move more and do the exercises that should cure it.THey do not cure anything.  They are very bad for the liver, kidneys etc. Good luck..

I second what the other guy said. I agree, Gaba was a miracle drug for me. It took enough of the pain away that I could cope and function before the surgery. IT WILL NOT HEAL YOU. You really need to understand that. It is a bandaid to allow you to function while you figure out what is wrong. An MRI should be top priority for you and then discuss the results with an orthopedic spine doc or a neurologist.

    Good luck.

I feel your pain! I agree with other comments, when the drugs kick in try to use the time moving, nothing strenuous, gentle walking and stretches have helped me no end. I've now got my physio app booked to hopefully get to the root of my problem. Also try a Tens machine or Paingone pen, drug free and you can use whenever you need it, doesn't work for everyone but I find it helps 😊 Good luck x

FYI, walking and mild excerise are NOT a good idea if you have a disc fragment crushing the nerve. This is what I had and the only way you will know is to have an MRI. I literally had a piece of disc break away from the main disc and lidge against the nerve crushing it.

I'm just sharing what works for me as I said, it doesn't work for everyone 😕

Sorry, didn't mean to sound rude. I was trying to stress the urgency of the MRI since in may case I would have been doing more damage.

That's ok, we're all in this together! I've been told by my doc I can't get a scan til I've done the physio, some of the excercises help, some aggravate it and I'm happy in agony. I iust know that the more I sit and not move the worse it gets! 😊

    Hi

so sorry for your pain - have same and the ankle pain leaves me crying - sometimes need a cane.  Mine is due to l4 - l5 disk according to MRI.  You should see where it's coming from.

Nothing worked for me.  MRI showed a bone spur "crushing" (doc's word) my sciatic nerve at L4/L5.  Quick laminectomy...zero pain...zero rehab.  Stay away from those drugs!!!  Gabapentin will put 20 pounds on you in a month!!!  Like Kookywit says: Find the root cause!!!  The meds are fake relief.

    HI TreesT

I'm sorry to read that you are suffering from bad leg pain. I have been on Gabapentin for approx 8 months now owing to severe spine problems, although I can say Yes it does work, it's just that your body becomes used to the level you are on and you'll probably have to increase your levels, if your symptoms continue.

    Regards Dave
