Sciatica nerve block

Hello

I’ve had sciatica for just over a year . I’ve been on medications all this time and have good an bad days. I am having acupuncture. Three weeks ago u had a nerve block injection and since this I have the sensations back in my foot and lower leg that I had when I was very sore . Has anyone had the nerve block , I’m wondering to myself is it related or not . So frustrated with this . Thank you

I'm sorry you're having bad reactions to thetreatment you've been given. Personally, I would never, ever have a nerve block for something caused by the largest nerve in my body, since Sciatic doesn't really exist. Must be a Herniated Disc or Stenosis. I would cure the root of the problem, which is somewhere else entirely. I don't leave my health in the hands of Doctors who normally push Big Pharma. I would never take medications for a year thatare really bad for the kidneys and liver and if you're unlucky will have you on Dialisis one day.. But then I'm in a country where we have a National health service, but eduacted people study deeply before they submit themselves to any old treatment and most certainly avoid anything that's going to be aging or bad in the long run. I have spine problems and suffer a certain amount of pain. But have looke dto Germany and The Scandinavian countrie s which use Ozone Gas injections to heal inflamation and rehydrate discs. So , good luck. I hope you cure whatever it is that you have. Did you have MRI Scans and X-Rays done? Those are the most basic exams to have done before any treatments.

I've had sciatica many, many times over the years.  Back in 2012, absolutely nothing worked.  My neurosurgeon did an MRI which was inconclusive so he went in.  Found a bone spur completely "crushing" (his term) my sciatic nerve root at L4.  Took off the spur and did a simple decompressive laminectomy of L4/L5.  Irritated nerve went from pain level 10 to zero in 5 days...done...totally cured.  Sometimes, they just gotta go in and fix the damn problem.

I'm getting quite fond of reading your replies! Mine is being mediated. I do believe that when the body is frustrated by something that doesn't eliminate the root problem, something else will turn up. Just the same as they now discovered that brain cells grow when people have had brain injuries and the brian changes itslef to meet the challenge.

My wife had a brain aneurysm 7 years ago.  It was always thought that blood on the brain killed those brain cells.  Latest research is that it's more like a concentric circle and that only those cells in the center of the circle are really dead.  The rest are active to some degree.  You have to retrain the brain to create new pathways around or through those cells to get the brain to function near normal again.

Have spent years working with her on this.  She suffers from aphasia...she knows the word she wants to use but can't extract it from her memory.  I have her "define" the word she's looking for and use that definition in a sentence.  Sooner or later, she remembers the word...new pathway created.  She writes it down and repeats the word over and over again to reinforce the new path.

      None of this is easy...

Take a look at this. Can we, as adults, grow new neurons? Neuroscientist Sandrine Thuret says that we can, and she offers research and practical advice on how we can help our brains better perform neurogenesis—improving mood, increasing memory formation and preventing the decline associated with aging along the way.
