Has anyone had a scrotal (testicular) nerve block injection for controlling the pain of their epdidimytis? Did it work for you and were there any side effects? Thanks.

    Hi Howard,

I was offered the nerve block November 2018 , but I stupidly turned it down. The pain specialist said the nerve block may not work, he said even if it did work it may only bring some relief for a few days or a few weeks.

Have you had your nerve block now, has it worked.?

Yes I did have it done and it was a wonderful 48 hours! It was just Lidocaine which the doctor said would only last a few hours but I got 2 days relief. Th e main goal of the nerve block is to see if you respond at all to it. If you do as I did it means the pain is caused by nerves.

So now I am scheduled for another nerve block which contains Botox. This should last for up to 6 months. Cortisone is also used which is also effective but not as good as botox - so I am told.

The procedure itself was very simple - only took 2 minutes with no discomfort. You should definitely try it. Sometimes just breaking the pain cycle for a few days can be enough to stop the chronic pain.

My doctor is also looking at a more permanent solution doing a microsurgical denervation but that is a big procedure so I hope I can avoid it with the Botox. Good luck. Howard

So glad it worked for you, even if it was just for 48 hours.

I believe the swelling of the epididymis and veins press on the nerves which causes the pain signals, even cysts that are positioned in the wrong place will cause the nerves to react. I've been told I have a cyst on the head of the epididymis, but they say its less than 2mm in size.

I'm due to go back next week, see what they say this time. I don't fancy the surgical approach, but I'm getting desperate now, 14 years is enough of this pain.

Keep us informed, I'll do the same.

Isn't there a procedure where they snip the nerve to the testicle using microsurgery?

Glad to find this group..I am in daily pain and have yet to find a doctor that can help me.

There is a procedure called Microsurgical Denervation that attempts to stop the pain. I can send you a recent paper on this if you PM your email.

A few weeks ago I had a Botox injection into the testicular cord. My urologist said it helps stop the pain in 70% of cases. So far it has helped though any erections still cause a flare-up.

I have been living on opioids until now, usually 1 Percoset per day which stops the pain after an hour for a good 24 hours. The side effects have not been bad - just some itching.

If the Botox does not work I will try it again and if it still does not work then I will try the Microsurgical Denervation. And if that does not help then bye-bye testicle.
