Scrotal/perenial area abscess wound not healing for 7 months

I had an abscess in January and it was drained successfully by the doctor. Despite taking so many antibiotics after that, it hasn't healed completely. There appears to be a small hole and it discharges some pus and blood slowly. This wound was cleaned and stitched by my doctor 2 months a go but it still didn't close completely. I went through so many tests like colonoscopy, MRI, blood tests etc but it didn't find any issues that would prevent the wound from healing. Currently I am on antibiotics (Augmentin) but it doesn't seem like it's helping. Please advise.

I am so sorry that you are dealing with this. It sounds like you may have a fistula. I read that at least 50% of perennial abscesses turn into fistulas (with no rhyme or reason- just luck (or bad luck) of the draw). I had a perennial abscess drained in October, then had surgery to have it drained and cleaned and then developed a fistula 2 months later after it was declared "healed". Surgery was necessary to take care of the fistula. My advice would be to see a colorectal specialist (if you aren't seeing one already) who can examine you and see if it is a fistula. Hang in there!

Thanks for understanding what I am going through. I had a colonoscopy done two weeks a go. They could not find anything. Does colonoscopy find fistula's or is there a different procedure for that? I haven't had any surgeries performed on me so far. Just had it drained once and after a few months, cleaned and stitched.

Just re-read your post and realize that your wound never healed after surgery? I am guessing that ruled out Crohns Disease? I would still follow up with a colorectal surgeon and hope that you can get some answers soon!

Thanks for understanding my situation. I didn't have a surgery on it. Only had it drained initially. After a few months, it was cleaned and stitched. Also, my colonoscopy outcome did not find any condition such as Crohns, ulcerative colitis or polyp.

You dont need to worry too much. Wven if its ffistula it doesnt hurt that much and it heals quickly. Im in the healing process in the time being. Just dont worry too much. Consult your doctor and see if it is fistula. It heals quickly and it doesnt do that much pain as i thought it would. Could sit and poop the very next day without problem.

Are you able to go to work/school or home rest is mandatory? What's the expected healing time, how many months?

    Hi.

i would imagine after all the tests you have had, it’s unlikely to be a fistula. Have you always been prescribed augmentin or have they tried any other antibiotics?. If not, ask for a change of antibiotics to see if that works.

I took for Septra in February followed by Keflex between March and April two different times. Then I was given Clindamycin but I develop fever and chills at that time due to sepsis because of this abscess and I was admitted for a few days. Then i was prescribed Doxycycline with Augmentin for two weeks. After one month, I am currently on Augmentin again for two weeks.
